AUGUST was a sunny & hot month. Too little rain at our place.

I watched athletics from Munich, tennis from the US, spent hours in the garden

and in the evenings listened to audiobooks.

My July in Collage

In JULY the heat wave was gone and I was happy about it.

We got also rain and that was really needed.

A friend and I had a lovely museum day and had pleasant lunch later on at our terrace, 

two of dh’s cousins visited us with their wifes and we had a nice time,

there were also some other guests. Nice memories for the winter...

JUNE was a wonderful garden month, warm & sunny.

The downside has been the need to water the garden every evening, but that too 

is a meditative and peaceful job last thing in the evening.

TIME FLIES and we are soon in June and that is great!

I have been tidying the garden and cut off dead branches, but there is still a lot to do.

For example our terrace floor waits to be painted and DH has to cut three big dried lilacs. 

DH has been very busy making construction plans for the house of his daughter Nana. 

But in a week’s time I hope I’ll get him for my garden slave :)

My April in Collage

Isn’t it great that we are already in May! And the spring starts finally to arrive also in Finland.

Selma and Silva got sterilized and I have had to keep an extra eye on them,

but by now they don’t have to wear these ’dresses’ any more.

And they walked in the garden for the first time! Selma was a bit afraid, 

but Silva walked on the paths very eagerly and wanted to repeat it all the time.

Garden work has started and I love to spend outdoors a couple of hours a day!

March was not a nice month with all the devastating world news.

Also the Finnish spring proceeds very slowly and there is still a lot of snow to melt.

My January in Collage

Weatherwise January offered very fluctuating weather - frost & plus grades, 

cloudy days and sunshine, snowfall & rain. Till this last weekend we had a decent amount of snow,

no threat to be buried in this white stuff, but the weekend showed the strenghth of winter:

Strong winds & over 40 cm new snow - but we are fine!

 

The month passed quickly in a semi hibernating mood, so glad February is here!

My December in Collage

Selma and Silva arrived home on the 11th of December and have brought so much joy to our quiet Christmas. We got our third vaccination in a fancy shopping center just before Christmas and I am happy about it. Feels a bit safer.

I told you about the birthplace of Jean Sibelius on his birthday the 8th of December and on Christmas Eve about Turku Cathedral. I also made a summary of my 2021 HERE and shared some impressions of the sunny & cold Finnish Christmas. Some luxury offered a revisit to the Sinebrychoff family's home museum.

My November in Collage

At last we can say goodbye to November and welcome December! The month was not so bad and it practically flied. I participated in How to survive November challenge by Lepis. This year November was GREEN and the challenge really helped to survive this grey month.

I had my salivary gland removed and it is healing well, still aching a bit. I have tried to walk outdoors, have read a lot and decorated the house for Christmas. It is very probable that I have to remove some decorations when Selma and Silva arrive, because they run and play. I presented these cute kitties HERE.

I visited Didrichsen Art Museum with a friend and we saw jewellery designer & sculptor Björn Weckström’s fabulous exhibition Man, machine & jewellery. I visited also Plantagen and admired their plants and Christmas decorations. I told you also about the Askainen Church near Louhisaari manor.

Not a bad month after all. Now there are of course many doubts concerning Omicron and Christmas. I am not sure if me and hubby have the courage to meet grandchildren, because they are not vaccinated yet. We’ll get our 3rd Covid vaccination on Dec 21.

But the most exciting happening to me was to see our new kitten for the first time.

She was born in Hämeenlinna  on the 2nd of September with 5 other kittens.

We decided to keep the name Selma that the breeder had given her. 

Selma is coming home before Christmas, in mid December or so.

Aasa is a caring mother and all the six kittens begin with S: 

Saana, Santtu, Seela, Selma, Siiri & Silva.

My August in Collage

August was mostly cool and rainy till the last week which I spent in Kustavi and Turku.

I posted only 10 posts and shared you my experiences from

I also celebrated my 70th birthday, over half a year late!

Practically no garden photos, because my garden suffered so badly from draught.

I have great news:

I have reserved a new kitten. It will be one of these, a male Norwegian forest cat 

in light beige / reddish colors if everything goes well. The six kittens were born on September 2.

I’m excited. Welcome September!

Weatherwise July was oh so beautiful, hot and sunny - but torturing dry. I have practically photographed nothing in the garden, nor wanted to see the sad withering plants. On the contrary I have been a lot on the move, also not to mourn about the death of Sissi on the first of July. June has been a wonderful summer month with sun & warm weather.

I have met children & grandchildren & friends - so lovely.

Finland is opening up after the coronavirus outbreak.

My May in Collage

May has not offered the nicest weather, though in mid May we had a few wonderful & warm 

summer days. I visited my son & hubby’s daughter and went to see Roihuvuori Cherry Park. 

Otherwise my time has gone in the garden & doing small painting jobs here and there outdoors.

May was a good reading month as well: in total 16 books read or listened,

foreign & Finnish fifty fifty.

My April in Collage

 April has offered all kinds of weather. There were some sunny days and pretty warm days

and I went eagerly outdoors to plant thujas and preparing the terrace for the summer.

But then the weather changed: it was rainy and so frightening cold, even wet snow.

The most wonderful happening was this rare visitor: 

a gorgeous goshawk who sat for a while outside the window.

I sincerely hope that the trees start to sprout and the sun comes out!

My March in Collage

It has been a quiet month, mainly in expectation of spring.

The snow is slowly melting and the first snowdrops are blooming.

I truly welcome April!

Opposite our house there is a small woods. Half of it is gone now.

There is going to be built a new house. It took the guys two days to cut down all the

trees and transport the trunks away. Later they dug all the stumps, roots and rocks away.

Interesting to follow the construction process.

My February in Collage

This February has been a tough month. The winter has been severe with snowfalls 

& strong colds. Lately we have got some sand from  Sahara and it can be clearly seen on the snow.

In addition we have had icy rains that have difficulted to scratch the car windows.

We have been sick and tired all three: Sissi was very sick, probably she had a fever 

but is now fortunately better and eats well again.

Hubby has been couching for weeks and my flu (not corona said the test) does not seem to go away.

Well, not so positive thoughts about February - fortunately it is soon over.

The covid situation in Finland adds its stress to my spirits.

But I want to turn my thoughts to spring and spring bulbs. 

And try to gain my energy and positive attitude!

My January in Collage

I’ll remember this January of a real snow inferno - in two days we got 50 cm new snow.

There was also a period of freezing weather, under minus 20 C. Otherwise quite normal,

if you can say that under a pandemia - endless monotonous days, short and tired days, 

not much daylight, no covid nor colds - a reason to be happy about.
