These three sisters are like princesses from a fairytale or from Carl Larsson's paintings.

The sun was too bright but I had no choice.

Fiesta at Countryside

My sweet granddaughter Helmi finished high school  with great grades and got her white student cap. Now university either in Aberdeen or in Glasgow waits for this eager psychology student. Her graduation party was held at Siuntio, a rural community at less than hour's drive from Helsinki.

Helmi's brother Hannes celebrated his 16th birthday and finished his primary school with excellent grades.
High school now waits this handsome 190 cm tall young man!

Helmi's family had booked this pretty Fanjunkars Cottage that has great history. So I'll tell a bit about it. One of our most important Finnish writers, Aleksis Kivi  (see more at the link!) lived here between 1864 - 1871. His landlady was Miss Charlotta Lönnqvist who offered home and creating peace for this poor writer. Those years at Fanjunkars were the most productive in Kivi's life. He wrote there also his great novel Seven Brothers.

Helmi's cousins are pretty and sweet, like taken from Carl Larsson's paintings!

After the war Fanjunkars Cottage remained in the area that had to be rented to Soviet Union. Sadly under those years the cottage got ruined, only the stone foundation was left. The idea to rebuild Fanjunkars lived for long and gladly finally in 2003 the construction could be started. Three years later this pretty culture house was ready. The local council of Siuntio meets sometimes there and the cottage can be rented for private purposes as well.

In the cottage there is a museum room showing portraits and the writing place of this great writer. Our happy graduate celebration was a sunny success in this beautiful cultural environment. The table was filled with all kinds of delicious stuff - thanks to my dear daughter-in-law!

Miss Universe 2030?

This week's topic at Our Beautiful World is BEAUTIFUL, chosen by Mandy. 

There is so much beauty and beautiful things in the world and in my life. 

I'll share five short thoughts of beauty.

1 Female Beauty

Soon it is time to crown again the new Miss Finland, so a few words about Finnish international beauty queens.

• Six times a Finnish girl has been crowned as Miss Europe: in 1934 Ester Toivonen, 1938 Sirkka Halonen, 1955 Inga-Britt Söderberg, 1968 Leena Brusiin and 1976 Riitta Väisänen.
• We have had one Miss World: in 1957 Marita Lindahl.
• And two times Miss Universe: in 1952 Armi Kuusela and in 1975 Anne Pohtamo.

The year 1952 was a great year for us Finns. We had summer Olympics in Helsinki and Armi Kuusela (Williams, Hilario) was elected as Miss Universe! She was the first real superstar in Finland - when she came to visit there were thousands of people meeting her at the airport. She has been so beloved through the years! Armi lived years in the Filippines, was married to Gil Hilario and moved later to California with her second husband.

So is she Miss Universe 2030? My photo is not good but isn't there a resemblance?

Those huge eyes, beautiful nose, the lovely lips, that angelical expression...
You never know!

Kolme asiaa viime kesältä

Sain tämän Kolmen asian haasteen Siniunikolta - kiitos sinulle! 

Yritänpä tuumailla puutarhan näkökulmasta viime kesän asioita!

Kolme asiaa, jotka ilahduttivat viime kesänä 

1. Satoi riittävästi, kertaakaan en vetänyt kasteluletkuja esiin!

Kaikki kukki ja kukoisti kun eivät kärsineet kuivuudesta.

2. Meillä oli hurjasti pikkulintuja ja sepelkyyhkyjä, niitä on niin mukava seurata!

3. Syksyyn jo liittyy, mutta syyskuun säät ja ruska olivat upeita!

Kolme asiaa, joista en pitänyt viime kesänä

1. Satoi ihan liikaa!

2. Oli pilvistä ja koleaa, ei juurikaan kunnon kesän tuntua!

3 .Ulkomaalausremppa venyi ja vanui. 

Sen vuoksi terassi oli hyrskyn myrskyn aivan liian kauan 

- tosin ei siellä olisi koleudessa viihtynytkään... Muutamat kekkerit sentään siellä.

Kolme asiaa, jotka sain kesän aikana valmiiksi

1. Leikkasin käytännössä kokonaan alas (muutamat hujopit jätin) 

kolmen sivun pitkät pensasaidanteet. 

Kahdella sivulla idänvirpiangervoa, yhdellä rusopajuangervoa. Hirvee homma!

2. Nuorensin myös kolme jättisuurta pihajasmiketta - myös hirvee homma! 

Kukintaa ei ensi vuonna tule kuin nimeksi, mutta joskushan niitä pensaita on nuorennettava.

3. Levensin myös noin 7 m pitkän perennapenkin kun siinä mikään ei mahtunut kasvamaan. 

On niillä nyt ilo ensi kesänä levittäytyä!

Kolme asiaa, jotka jäivät kasvukaudella kesken

1. Vuoheputket eivät meiltä lopu ikinä. Kolmas kitkentäkierros jäi tekemättä.

2. Ei ollut intoa säilöä yrttejäni, sinne jäivät maahan...

3. En istuttanut yhtään kukkasipuliakaan kevääksi, entisillä mennään.

Kolme asiaa, joita stressasin

En stressannut mistään puutarhaan liittyvästä. Muuten vastaan selkä, selkä ja selkä.

Kolme asiaa, jotka saivat minut rentoutumaan

3. Makrolinssin kun sais!

Kyllä minä lämmöstä, auringosta ja perhosista unelmoin!

No, jos minulta kysytään niin kesässä on parasta aivan kaikki! 

Luonto, lämpö ja laiskuus.

Kiireettömyys, kirjat ja kekkerit.

Kivat kesävieraat ja koirakaverit.

If you ask me, I think best about summer is simply everything!

The nature, warmth and lazyness.

Easygoing life, books and parties.

Beloved summer guests and pet buddies.

We had a small casual summer party at our terrace...

I decorated the table with a phlox bouquet and a pink water lily...

Grandson and his computer while the adults were chatting...

We had some light summer salads...

There was only one corner left for photographing... Yummy!

Sour cherries from the garden did not spoil our good humour!
