Sipoo, Gumbostrand

Today I’ll share some maritime summer views, photos taken at Gumbostrand, Sipoo.

In this small marina there were no sailboats, only motorboats. 

The day was beautiful & sunny, not too hot.

There was a swan family with four chicks.

Unfortunately they were a bit too far a way for my mobile phone.

 

There were beautiful villas, too. Many had maritime views.

I wonder how many hundred kilos this old anchor would weigh...

Summer Plantings in Lime & Purple

Today I’ll share some of my summer plantings. On the terrace low staircase I have three

big pots that I painted matt black last summer. The pots were brown plastic, old and ugly, 

but turned out looking like new. The paint has not come off and looks flawlewss.

Our house is from the 50s and the plinth is relatively high. When DH built the terrace

20 years ago, we changed one narrow window to a door and two staircases were needed. 

There is a white fence around and also a gate. When we had dogs they stayed there, 

but it is of course not safe for the kittens. I have balcony boxes to add green ’inside’. 

There are also trellis for room feeling and for climbers.

Our terrace faces to the west and is VERY hot in the afternoon, even till 40C in the sun.

That is why we have two parasols. The base of the smaller parasol is camouflaged 

with a flowerpot and stones.

At the shadow end of the terrace there are growing Astrantia, ferns, Ligularia przewalskii 

and Iris pseudacorus. At the other end there are some clematis that are very late this year.

From Old Times

The topic of Makrotex is OLD TIMES.

I have a few rusty old items in the garden, including a Singer sewing machine

on top of which there is a planter. And this rusty thing is one of them.

This metal cover used to protect liquid for AIV silage.

Wikipedia: Artturi Ilmari Virtanen (1895 – 1973) was a Finnish chemist and recipient of the 1945 Nobel Prize in Chemistry "for his research and inventions in agricultural and nutrition chemistry, especially for his fodder preservation method”. He invented AIV silage which improved milk production and a method of preserving butter, the AIV salt, which led to increased Finnish butter exports.

This is a big iron cauldron which were used in saunas heating the water.

When grandkids were small we roasted sausages in it with an open fire.

Another hosts some plants.

Addictio Chamber Choir at Temppeliaukio Church

The Temppeliaukio Church / The Rock Church, Helsinki is located on a rocky hill and has been excavated inside the rock. The church is round in shape and its dome is surrounded by a strip of narrow skylights. Inside the dome is copper and excavated granite is left visible on the walls. The church is one of Helsinki's most popular tourist attractions and, due to its good acoustics, a popular concert venue. Last Friday I attended the 15th year anniversary concert of Chamber Choir Addictio where my son Harri sings bass.

I lived for a while in that red building seen at the background.

Addictio is a Helsinki-based chamber choir founded by its singers in the autumn of 2005.  

The choir was born out of the enthusiasm of its singers to form their own choir, where they could make as much music as possible, experimenting and to a high standard - not forgetting the fun.  

Their basic repertoire includes traditional and new Finnish and European mixed choir music. 

The present director is this handsome guy, Riku Laurikka (b. 1994) who graduated 

from the Sibelius Academy’s choir conducting class as a master of music in the spring of 2021. 

In 2017-2018, he studied at the University of the Arts in Graz, Austria. 

These are the well-known stone steps that lead from Oksasenkatu up to 

Temppeliaukio and the church.

Friday Bliss #190 - Wedding Happening

One Saturday I went grocery shopping and saw to my surprise that the florist shop

had a great wedding happening. Of course I admired their floral decorations 

and took a few mobile shots.

There was a violin player and the ladies had flower wreaths on the head.

All decorations were made with fresh cut flowers and I suspect they had spent

the whole previous night making them. There were nice ideas for other celebrations as well.

Deep red proposal bouquets with velvet red roses and anthuriums. Price 25 €.

One of the many bridal bouquets with hydrangea, phalaenopsis and eustoma.

Customers could choose their favourite among five bridal bouquets and vote.

The floral decorations of these high & impressive chandeliers were stunning.

A great idea for other celebrations as well. Probably they rent these chandeliers.

A magnum shampagne bottle had a wonderful floral decoration.

A great birthday present even in a normal size.

The talented floral fairy, owner of the shop.

Her green hair had exactly the same tone as her dress.

There was a wedding arch in front of which the customers could have their photo taken.

Floral decorations are suitable for shoes too!

This round bridal bouquet was my favourite.

The young bridemaids were beautiful and slender.

I love the colours of this bridal bouquet in pastel shades.

We celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday - congratulations to all moms & grandmoms!
