Friday Bliss #40 - Blue Beauties

Despite varying weather, a lot is happening in the garden this week, too.
Maybe you can help me in identifying this dark purple geranium?
I think it is Geranium magnificum - Tarhakurjenpolvi, but it might also be
Geranium himalayense - Idänkurjenpolvi. But which, I don’t know for sure.
I have several of these and this one in a sunny spot is the first to bloom.

I went sightseeing near home. Visited once again the artist community around Lake Tuusula.
Our much respected national writer Aleksis Kivi  died in this tiny cottage 1872.
His Seven Brothers is the first significant novel written in Finnish.

Other plant joys of the week 24:

This summer I have been a bit lazy in making bouquets for the terrace,
but here a sunny one in contrasting colours.

Friday Bliss #8

If months were marked by colors,
November in New England - and in Finland! - would be colored gray.
- Madeleine M. Kunin

This November there seems to be nothing to say.
- Anne Sexton
...
As you can see from the above quotes autumn darkness has landed in Finland
and the lack of daylight starts to have its effect on my mood :)
It is definitely the time to start to use my Beurer daylight therapy lamp.
It really helps to overcome this fatigue!

November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring.
- Clyde Watson

Wishing you a blessed All Saints’ Day! - Rauhaisaa pyhäinpäivää!

Miehen silmin - Through Dear Hubby's Eyes

Nilkkavammani vuoksi liikkumiseni on äärimmäisen rajoittunutta, niinpä delegoin puutarhan kuvaamista miehelle.

Kultakuoriainen - Cetonia aurata
Because of the foot injury and cast my moving is extremely restricted. So I delegated some photographing to dear hubby. Easier said than done, because he is not a garden person at all and keeps asking what to photograph and how - and I try to be patient and explain. The funniest thing is that he sees at least the plants in a quite different way than I and seems to be more interested in bugs than flowers :)

No, näillä mennään.

Well, this is what I have got and have to rely on his help. Many plants are blooming now but these deep purple blue geraniums like never before! I have several plants in my mixed beds. And this Gillenia trifoliata is really like an airy grouping of tiny butterflies as its Finnish name suggests. So pretty but extremely challenging to photograph.

Kaunista uutta viikkoa. - Wishing a beautiful new week!

Early This June Morning

Meconopsis betonicifolia - Sinivaleunikko

Our topic this week is June. So I went out at 5 o'clock and photographed some glimpses
in the morning sun - which by the way is a bit challenging.
This is what I got! The warm weather has made many plants to bloom.
The early bird catches the worm - in this case photos :)

Makrotexin aiheena on kesäkuu.
Tässä muutamia kurkistuksia kello 5.00 tänä aamuna.
Aikainen lintu kuvan nappaa :)

Probably: Geranium himalyense - Idänkurjenpolvi
Rosa spinosissima - Juhannusruusu
Meconopsis cambrica - Keltavaleunikko
Humulus lupulus 'Aureus' - Kultahumala
Rosa Pimpinellifolia 'Poppius' - Suviruusu
Maybe this delighted me the most! - Ehkä tämä ilahdutti eniten!

Wishing you a flower rich day! - Kukkaisaa päivää!

Floral Bliss #27

Rosa rugosa 'Belle Poitevine'
The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Rosa pimpinellifolia 'Ruskela' is blooming soon for the first time.
I have got it as a small root sprout.

In spite of rainy days, many plants are beginning to bloom:
in pink as roses, in blue as geraniums, in yellow as hemerocallis...

Paeonia lactiflora 'Edulis Superba'

Rainy days should be spent at home with a cup of tea and a good book.
- Bill Watterson

There's going to be a lot of reading this summer!

Probably Geranium x magnificum

Meconopsis gambrica - The Welsh poppy
Meconopsis betonicifolia - only two buds...
Tradescantia Andersoniana Group
I have these in many colors, this one had self seeded between pavement tiles...
Plantago media
The white Centaurea montana is not as aggressive as the blue one
Rosa rugosa 'Zwerg'
