Happy Midsummer!

Eino Leino (1878 – 1926) was a Finnish poet and journalist and is considered one of the pioneers of Finnish poetry. His poems combine modern and Finnish folk elements. The style of much of his work is like the Kalevala and folk songs. Nature, love, and despair are frequent themes in Leino's work. He is beloved and widely read in Finland today. His poem Midsummer is very well-known.

Juhannus

Minä avaan syömeni selälleen
ja annan päivän paistaa,
minä tahdon kylpeä joka veen
ja joka marjan maistaa.

Minun mielessäni on juhannus
ja juhla ja mittumaari,
ja jos minä illoin itkenkin,
niin siellä on sateenkaari.

Midsummer

Trusting, my heart I open and take
the daylight there to shine,
I want to bathe myself in every lake
and taste all berries fine.

Deep in my mind I celebrate Saint John
and the midsummer night,
and, in the evenings, If I cry anon
there's a rainbow bright.

- translated by Maria Magdalena Biela

Mittsommer

Ich werde mein Herz aufmachen
und den Tag glänzen lassen,
Ich werde jeden See baden
und alle Beere schmecken.

In meinem Kopf ist es Hochsommer
und Feier und Mittsommer,
und soll ich abends weinen,
so wird es ein Regenbogen sein.

- übersetzt von mir

Floral Bliss #26

It is Midsummer week. I connect to midsummer geraniums, lupins, cow parsley
irises and of course Midsummer rose - Rosa spinosissima.

When I was a little girl my father decorated with young birches
both sides of the stairs. So birch branches belong still to my midsummer tradition
and actually any white & blue flowers bring the right midsummer mood.
Geraniums are not yet in bloom, but I gathered here some that are blooming right now.

Pieni - Tiny

Etualalla nukkapähkämöä - In the foreground Stachys byzantina

The Makrotex Challenge of the week is TINY.
I photographed some tiny flowers.

Tellima on aivan mahdottomasti siementävä perenna, joka menestyy missä vaan.
Tellima grandiflora self seeds abundantly and thrives without no care everywhere.

Niittyleinikki tai rönsyleinikki on valloittanut ruusupensaitten alustat.
Ranunculus acris or Ranunculus repens has conquered the ground under big rose bushes.

Kevättähtimö on ihan pikkuinen luonnonkukka.
Stellaria holostea is a tiny wild flower.

Ja vielä pieni skoolaus kesälle ja juhannukselle!
A tiny skål to Midsummer!

All in Purple

My old Rhododendron 'Roseum elegans' is starting to bloom.

A broadleaf evergreen shrub, Rhododendron Roseum Elegans makes a great selection
for those moist, shaded locations. It has large leaves in hues of dark green and
large clusters of flowers that bloom lilac-pink, opening in May and are hard to beat!

So are Allium 'Purple Sensation'...

Then I found this tiny aquilegia seedling, in purple too.

Also Osteospermums are starting to bloom...

Wishing you a colourful new week to come!

And wishing you a Happy Midsummer with this
white Midsummer rose - Rosa spinosissima.

Early in the Morning

At the moment the sights are mainly green on the shady side of the garden.
Waiting for the roses to bloom...

Wishing you all a Beautiful Green Weekend!

Pretty in Pink

This week we have had truly lovely sunny summer days.
The week is totally in pink for lilacs and rhododendrons are in bloom.
Also the first aquilegias started to bloom - in pink of course!

Mikkeli - St. Michel - very hardy in our climate.
The buds are bright pink, turning to pale when they open.

Ihanista kesäpäivistä on saanut nauttia tällä viikolla.
Viikko on ollutkin ihan pinkkiä, sillä alppiruusut ja syreenit kukkivat.
Myös ensimmäiset akileijat avasivat kukkansa - pinkkiä nekin tottakai!

Haaga - very hardy too

Syringa vulgaris - Pihasyreeni

Gartenglück - my garden blooms a bit later than yours in Germany.
So a bit repetition for you :)

Ihanaa viikonloppua! - Happy weekend!
