Friday Bliss #187 - Sunny Easter!

For Easter I bought this season’s last tulips because soon they will not be available in shops.

They look so sunny with muscaris and make me think of spring.

Fazer’s Mignon eggs are genuine egg shells filled with chocolate.

The founder of the company Karl Fazer began making this classic of the Finnish Easter tradition 

in his factory as early as 1896. The handmade Mignon still tastes almost the same 

as it was when it was born. 

DIY idea: pretty small heart with a tete-a-tete bulb seen at a garden market.

Sunny Yellow

The topic of Makrotex this week is YELLOW.

Here some tulips and forget-me-nots from last year - in the colours of Ukraine.

This tulip is ’Akebono’, high with a big flower.

Then I have this piece of kinetic art by an unknown artist.

I saw it at Ars Nova, Turku and it lookeed fabulous. It felt three dimensional depending on where 

I stood and as if parts of it were floating in the air.

Friday Bliss #176 - Tulips in the Sun

I bought two bunches of tulips at Lidl, even if I can’t keep them on the sofa table 

because of the kittens. They looked very dry and I thought they would wither without opening.

But I was wrong, they opened beautifully and looked charming in the winter sun.

It has been a quiet week. The sidewalks continue to be very slippery.

I have watched the Australian Open and listened to audiobooks.

Agatha christie offers even today relaxing murder mysteries. I listened these two:

Krapu w 38 - Syysmietteitä / Autumn Thoughts

SYYSMIETTEITÄ

 

Syksy on Lissun serkkulikan Aina Inkeri Ankeisen parasta aikaa: valittaa voi koko ajan. Lissu näkee sentään jotain hyvääkin, mutta mennyttä ovat kevätaamut, jolloin mieli teki heti herättyä haahuilemaan puutarhaan, katsastamaan, miten siellä voitiin: Louise Odier paleltunut mutta hengissä ja kirottu vuohenputki taas ryöstäytynyt! Lissun tapaisille kukkatädeille kasvit ovat rakkaita lapsia, joita hellitään ja hoivataan.

Aina Inkerin alakulo on viedä Lissunkin mennessään: sataa, tuuli ujeltaa nurkissa ja tuivertaa hiuksia, ruskalehtiä putoilee maahan. Ei auta kuin sanoa haikeat hyvästit kesälle, mutta vielä hän haluaa istuttaa sipuleita kevätiloksi. Lissu näkee mielessään tuulessa aaltoilevat tulppaanit - vaaleanlilaa ja valkoista. Kohta se taas on - kevät ❤︎

AUTUMN THOUGHTS

Autumn is the best time for Alice's cousin Aina Inkeri Ankeinen: she whines all the time. Alice sees something good though, but gone are the spring mornings, when she would love to go immediately after waking up wandering aimlessly in the garden, to see the condition of her plants: Louise Odier frozen but survived and that damned goatweed recklessly spread again! For garden ladies like Alice, plants are dear ’babies' who are pampered and cared for. 

Aina Inkeri's melancholy almost swept over Alice: rain, whistling wind blowing in the hair, autumn leaves falling to the ground. One just has to say a wistful goodbye to the summer. But still she wants to plant bulbs for the spring. Alice sees in her mind the tulips waving in the wind - light purple and white. Soon it will be here again - spring  ❤︎

Ms Aina Inkeri Ankeinen is a comic sketch figure who complains all the time.

The name means an Ingrid who is always gloomy. 

I bought  mostly Candy Prince (light purple) and White Prince as they were on sale,

added with striped Groenland.

Friday Bliss #142 - Tulips & Roses

For today I made a round summer bouquet with yellow roses and combined forget-me-not

and magic & dramatic black tulip Queen of the Night.

I know that this is an odd combination, but I wanted roses to celebrate my grandson Hannes

who will get his white student cap tomorrow. So lovely to assist the family gathering

after so many months - let’s party!

I promised to tell my experience of the new tulips I planted in the autumn.

Here are my recommendations. I like very much the dramatic Queen of the Night. 

The flaming red above is Purple Doll, very beautiful with striped petals and lily form.

On the right Groenland the flower of which is pretty small. Don’t especially like it.

I’ll try to find more of Purple Dolls in the autumn!

These low tulips are highly recommendable. They have both beautiful variegated foliage, 

the red one is Esperanto and the pale pink China town.

Both of these yellow tulips are highly recommendable.

On the left Akebono with big and heavy blooms. That is why they should be planted 

in an open space, so that they get light from everey direction. I planted them in a wrong place,

a house corner and they bended towards the light. On the right beautiful Spring Green.

To finish a night vision. We have some solar lights on the terrace

and they look fine in the dark.

Tulip ’Esperanto'

The theme of Makrotex is today FLOWER.

I thought to present tulip ’Esperanto’ to you. It is low with beautiful variegated leaves.

The flower has gorgeous stripes and it looks amazing when looking inside.

"The buds bear a unique green-and-white pattern before blooming into gorgeous, flamed blooms. 

Its green leaves are also quite decorative, featuring a contrasting white edge. It's also long-lasting, 

the flowers stay beautiful for up to 3 weeks. They make classy cut flowers. Easy-growing 

and frost tolerant in borders, where it will attract butterflies. 

Esperanto has won the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.”

Garden Joys of Pentecost

Today is not raining! So I photographed some blooming plants and share with you 

a few garden impressions. This pink clematis Atragene is so easy and blooms abundantly

every year, practically with no care. It climbs along our house ladders.

I find tulip ’Akebono’ simply gorgeous!

Tulip ’Esperanto’ is low and has beautiful variegated leaves.

Only one ’Purple Doll’ has opened so far... More beautiful in bud.

Tulipa sylvestris has spread eagerly.
