Friday Bliss #208 - Green Memory Mix from Florence

I spent a few days in Florence in the autumn of 2019 - before the pandemic, war in Ukraine
and the energy crisis. It was an unforgettable vacation. I saw so much, visited art museums,
churches and admired the city & the Arno, as my small apartment was near to Ponte Vecchio.
Because I’m narrowed down to the house right now, I needed something to lift up the spirits
and was viewing my photos and thought to share some green views with you, too.

Please note the people on the street at the low part of the photo. The wall was very high.

How on earth they are able to cut the grass on a slope steep like this!

Here at home Sedum Herbstfreude is blushing. This is a plant that tolerates every draught!
Otherwise the garden is a sad sight - it is so dry that many perennials are drooping their leaves.
I wonder how many plants will be lost due to the draught of this summer.

Autumn is a book lover’s Christmas! There are constantly new books to be released
by Finnish writers & publishers. The latest book read is a novel The Cook of Miss Stein
by talented Leena Parkkinen. The story tells about the Paris of the 1930s, Gertrude Stein,
Alice B. Toklas and their Finnish cook Margit. The lovestory of Stein and Toklas was brave
at the time when homosexuality was a crime.

🍀🍀🍀

Wishing you a pleasant weekend!

Friday Bliss #112 - Happy Halloween!

It is Halloween weekend. I don't personally celebrate Halloween, so I don't have
any scary decorations either. But I thought to share these masks I photographed
at a square in Florence last autumn - even if they are more beautiful than scary.

For Jutta’s Digitalart Dienstag I made last year this manipulation
- Party over The Arno:

"The Venetian masks got tired of home corners and decided to travel.
They invaded Florence and scared the people.
But they thought that the party was really fun.”

It seems that the coronavirus is taking the whole world, and Europe in particular, directly to hell.
Led Zeppelin’s song Stairway to Heaven dates back to 1971. The heavy metal singer Jarkko Ahola
has a fantastic voice, please listen!

In fact, I am in heaven at the moment because three months of  renovation and moving project
is now done! Hallelujah!  You see, we had a beautiful & modern flat in an apartment house
in Helsinki and it was our intention to sell this old Vantaa house with laborious garden and to move
to an easier place. But in the beginning of August we decided to stay here, much because of
the coronavirus and the changed reality - no travels & no desire to stroll in the city center,
the countryside is wiser. So we renovated the whole house and moved our belongings
from the flat back here. What an arduous project but now it is done!

❤︎❤︎❤︎

I wish you Happy Halloween or peaceful All Hallow’s Day, whatever everyone is celebrating!

The theme at Makrotex is ROUND.
A merry-go-round is certainly round. This one was found in Florence.

Memories from Florence

Florence was filled with stairs. Exceptionally this one had a reiling!
I visited so many museums and palazzos that I am not quite sure from where they are.
Maybe from Casa Buonarroti? I went there to see the ceiling panel by Artemisia Gentileschi.
Did not take many photos, only these.

The panels were amazing, covering the whole ceiling. This lady is Artemisia’s work.

Perhaps portrait of Michelangelo...

Basilica di San Lorenzo is one of the largest churches of Florence.
It was the burial place of all the principal members of the Medici family from Cosimo il Vecchio
to Cosimo III. It is one of several churches that claim to be the oldest in Florence.

It is a huge complex, includes a cloister and looks very original outside.
The facade photo is from Wikipedia, I took photos only inside and it is very beautiful.
More photos & info HERE.

Peaceful Easter Sunday & all the best for the coming new week. Take care.

Santa Maria Novella is a wonderful church in Florence.
To me it was more beautiful than the Dome. I’m glad I could visit last October.

Treasures from Baroque

Makrotex asks for fruit, so I thought to share these beautiful paintings I saw at The Uffizi.
They were under glass, so quite a lot of reflections!

"Giovanna Garzoni (1600-1670) was a prominent Italian painter in Europe during the Baroque period. Garzoni started her career painting religious, mythological, and allegorical subjects but became famous for her works with tempera and watercolors of botanical themes. Garzoni was often called the Chaste Giovanna due to her vow to remain a virgin. Garzoni is also notable for being one the few women who opted to travel throughout Europe and receive an education during the 17th century instead of settling down and starting a family. "

When searching online I noticed that The Uffizi shall arrange a special exhibition of Garzoni
- The Greatness of the Universe at Palazzo Pitti from 10/03/2020 to 24/05/2020.
This is how stunning her artichokes look without reflections. Photo The Uffizi.

I tried to create my own version of Baroque with fruit & tulips!
