A Rare Visitor

The other day I was sitting in our living room reading.
Suddenly I noticed this goshawk sitting on the bannister of the trellis.
It sat there for a long while turning its head. When I tried to move closer,
it flew away. The photos are not that excellent taken through the window,
but still the best taken by me of a goshawk!

Santaland for Kids!

I walk often by this local garden center and the smoke from Santa's tipi-hut tempted
me to go and take a peek of their Santaland. In Santa’s tipi there is a fire where
kids can grill sausages and have a picnic with Santa.

They have put so much effort and created an elfin path for kids with so many
interesting creatures & animals to see. There are these funny trolls
made out of spruce...

... and these cute tiny gremlins...

I loved this hut of elves - they have it so cosy there!

I enjoyed so much this Santaland - only wish that there was more snow.
Happy Christmas time for everybody!

Hi, I am Marlon!

Our two Belgian Shephards are now in the dogs’ heaven and we don’t have own dogs anymore.
That is why we always go to meet these wonderful & friendly dogs
who work at the local pet shop and my husband buys them yummy snacks.
This cute Samoyed is Marlon and he is verly clever:
also his young stepbrother Puntti / Weight, a gorgeous Newfoundland, gets some snack,
which he devours in a second and Marlon afterwards teases Puntti with his snack, not yet eaten!

Puntti is a very handsome Newfoundland dog and wins all prizes in young dog's shows.
He is huge and yet so quick that I never get a good photo of him!
But this cute pair of pets brings so much joy to us and other customers ❤︎

Autumn Fun for Kids

Last Saturday I visited The Pumpkin Festival at Koiramäen pajutalli.
The place was crowded with families and kids. They had put an enourmous effort
to create a lovely happening. In addition to cafes, decorations and pumpkins there were animals
and a merry-go-round, too! A lot to see and enjoy.

... the kids loved their cotton candy ...

... resting for a while ...

... three cute llamas ...

... a Snow White?

... the coolest one, a rocker or raggare, just chewing the cud ...

... charming bedroom eye lashes ...

... this handsome black German Shepard was not on duty ...

... not giants but big. My heaviest giant weighed 42 kg years ago!

-- an UFO!

A nightmare:

"The music tears my eardrums and the fear tingles in the body. The lights flicker
like broken fluorescent lamps and the sea of distorted faces rustles. The horse's speed
accelerates from one round to the other and its cresp flaps - I can hardly stay on it.
Now, please, help someone!!!
I hear my childhood friend Leena saying again and again Take this, take this!
and she puts something sticky in my hand. In the vagueness I don't see what it is,
but I can smell its odour. I sniff and lick.
That's a cotton candy! What the hell am I doing with Leena here!

I wake up in a sweat and a heart beat. Relaxed, I see familiar walls and nothing spins.
The outline of the merry-go-round dissolves right into the ordinary morning,
and the velvety stickiness evaporates from my tongue.
You wonderful everyday! I want to stay in you, right now!" - riitta

Echinops bannaticus / August

This the utmost bee & bumblebee magnet in my garden, so as the final photo

I added only a bit of sharpness and colour.

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Jenni Tieaho - The Black Swan

The Black Swan - is called the fabulous outdoor art exhibition by Jenni Tieaho (b. 1969) situated in the yard of Akseli Gallen-Kallela Museum. Inside the atelier building there is an exhibition The Inner Eye. The curator of the exhibition is Nina Kokkinen, a researcher of art and religion and the exhibition is largely based on her published doctoral dissertation. Tieaho's mythological animals fit the esoteric theme brilliantly. Btw. Cygnys cygnus is Finland's nationl bird.

Black swan and other strange visions
Tieaho's stunning sculptures show dreamlike works of swans and human animals. The materials used are mainly natural such as wood, tar and willow parts of Finland's natural plants. The starting point for Tieaho's work is Finnish mythology and mythical animals. The swan character has a lot of symbolism, beliefs and myths. In the ancient beliefs of the Baltic Sea tribes, the swan was humanized and sacred. Swan was believed to be interconnected between this world and the world beyond. In the Kalevala, a swan swims in the black river of Tuonela, and when it leaves, Lemminkäinen loses his life. Jean Sibelius has a composition under the name of The Swan of Tuonela.

Humanized / Mythological Horses
In addition to swans, the exhibition features horse figures made up of wooden braids and milkweed autumn wool. Horse is a symbol of freedom and a bridge to the subconscious. In Tieaho's human horse characters, man gets the animal's senses and animal man's intelligence. The equine character represents the perfect merging of conscious and instinctive.
