Friday Bliss #198 - Romantic in Pink & Fluffy in White

Garden queens of the week are fluffy & butterfly-like Gillenia trifoliata in white,

scented pink peony Edulis Superba and the very high rosa Norwegian rose Hurdal.

With these two beauties I made a quick and easy floating arrangement

for our terrace table. In this heat it did not last long, but was nice as long as it lasted.

The Hurdal rose is very high, about five meters and it grows among thujas and

spreads charming forest feel. As it is so high, not the easiest to photograph.

This cute cat neighbour visits us now and then and likes to sleep in my flower bed.

We give him / her water & a bit of dry food. My cats consider this furry visitor an intruder,

that is why we don’t let them get near each other & fight.

Garden Joys of the Week

The week has been sunny & hot and even hotter it will be!

There is so much happening in the garden, smaller and greater joys every day.

I gathered here some impressions and the plants that bring me the most joy at the moment.

Pimpinella roses are the first to bloom in Finland. This pale pink beauty is ’Ruskela’, 

a newly found traditional rose. It grows behind our wooden swing.

Another rose blooming right now is tall Norwegian Rose ’Hurdal’.

It is pink and very high and brings a forest feeling growing among thujas.

Photographing is a challenge, because of its height.

This guy is also a joy! Hubby has continued washing our pavements

with pressure washer. Still a bit to go. His garden outfit is not very elegant :DD

Blooming of Meconopsis betonicifolia is certainly a joy!

Last year there was no blooming as I had replanted it to a better place.

Now there are many buds!

La Vie en Rose

 

I could easily say that my life is like La Vie en Rose,
because the Hurdal rose - Norwegian rose Hurdal blooms already abundantly
and looks stunning! It is an Alba hybrid, very high, about 4 m which makes it challenging
to photograph - it blooms high against the blue sky! Hurdal is inmensely vigorous,
almost thornless & has mild fragrance - and needs no care whatsoever.
I only cut away dry older branches. Dag Lyngar from Norway reports:

'Hurdalsrosen is perhaps the biggest alba in the World. It's believed that this rose came from the Giessen area in the south of Germany. But this rose doesn't any longer exist there. In Norway it is one of our most common roses. Hurdalen is a nice valley in Norway and the rose was brought to Norway about 150 years ago with a young seaman who fell in love with the young daughter of the priest in the valley Hurdalen.'

Also Rosa glauca roses have started to bloom. They are also high and large and grow near 

the borders of our property. Dart’s Defender is in bloom as well, still some Rosa rugosas to come.

Physocarpus opulifolius ’Dart’s Gold’ is beautifully in bloom as well.

Roses, Roses ❤︎

The Norwegian rose Hurdal is in full bloom!

It is an Alba hybrid, very vigorous & high, nearly 5 m. Almost thornless & mild fragrance.

It blooms once, in June.  Unfortunately it is situated so that the rose opens
its blooms to the neighbour :) I had two Hurdal roses, but the other suffered from
a cold winter and died. Last year’s photos are perhaps more beautiful - look HERE.

Other roses that are starting to bloom are among others Bourbon rose Louise Odier and

R. rugosas Rotes Meer, Schneekoppe and Zwerg.

My roses are not scarlet but I’ll share this beautiful Russian song

Charming Hurdal Rose

This week Hurdalrose - Norwegian rose Hurdal has delighted me with its abundant blooming. 

It is an Alba hybrid, very vigorous & high, up till 3-4 m. Once-blooming spring or summer. 

Almost thornless & mild fragrance. Dag Lyngar from Norway reports:

'Hurdalsrosen is perhaps the biggest alba in the World - in my garden 14 feet high = over 4 m. 

It's believed that this rose came from the Giessen area in the south of Germany. 

But this rose doesn't any longer exist there. In Norway it is one of our most common roses. 

Hurdalen is a nice valley in Norway and the rose was brought to Norway about 150 years ago 

with a young seaman who fell in love with the young daughter of the priest in the valley Hurdalen.
The name of this rose is now in the whole world called 'Hurdalsrosen'!'

Se on hyvin voimakaskasvuinen, jopa 3-4 m. Lehdet ovat harmahtavanvihreitä ja himmeäpintaisia.
Pinkit kukat ovat keskikokoisia, puolikerrottuja ja miedosti tuoksuvia. 

Hurdal kukkii noin kuukauden keskikesällä. Tekee runsaasti kiulukoita. Vähäpiikkinen.
