As it is Pentecost today and apple blossoms look so wonderful,
I like to share with you this poem by our beloved poet Eino Leino (1878-1926).
In Finnish we say: Heleätä helluntaita! My own translation.
APPLE BLOSSOMS
My happiness blooms like an apple tree
in the light spring nights,
when spruce tops are bowing down
and maidens are deep in their dreams.
Those few nights around Pentecost,
those nights are grand and profound,
if only no wind came to blow,
the craved good fruit would ripen.
Oh Heaven, let it be placid now,
even if later You give us other!
Oh mighty Lord, protect now
the apple tree of an orphan!
