Friday Bliss #156 - I Can Hear the Fall Calling

I CAN HEAR THE FALL CALLING
-SusuPetal, translated by riitta k

Grasp the disappearing summer with both hands
before the sunshine fades behind the houses,
before the forest falls asleep in the twilight.

Open the window, feel the cooling wind,
let the light still linger on the floor,
dance with the shadows until darkness covers the room.

Delay the exit of summer,
taste an apple ripened in August,
feel on the tongue a wistful farewell.

Collect memories, live now,
pick the crop and
store all the good you need for the winter.

Say goodbye to butterflies,
welcome the red of rowans,
the orange glow of winter cherries.

Collect the fall rain in your hands,
bathe in the glittering moonlight,
fall asleep with a smile on your lips.

See the glow of past summer in the incipient fall colors,
preserve warm and hopeful light in your heart,
light the first candle for the fall.

KUULEN SYKSYN KUTSUVAN
- SusuPetal

Tartu kaksin käsin kiinni katoavaan kesään
ennen kuin auringon kilo haipuu talojen taakse,
ennen kuin metsä nukkuu hämärään.

Avaa ikkuna, tunne vilvoittava tuuli,
anna valon vielä viipyä lattialla,
tanssi varjojen kanssa kunnes pimeys peittää huoneen.

Viivytä kesän lähtöä,
maista elokuun kypsyttämää omenaa,
tunne kielelläsi haikeat jäähyväiset.

Kerää muistoja, elä nyt,
poimi satoa ja
säilö kaikki se hyvä mitä tarvitset talveen.

Hyvästele perhoset,
toivota tervetulleeksi pihlajien puna,
lyhtykukkien oranssi hehku.

Kerää käsiesi maljaan syksyinen sade,
kylve kuun kimaltavassa hohteessa,
nukahda hymy huulillasi.

Näe menneen kesän hehku alkavassa ruskassa,
säilytä lämmin ja toiveikas valo sydämessäsi,
sytytä syksylle ensimmäinen kynttilä.

Friday Bliss #139 - Enjoy the Life!

Finally we have got summer temperatures of 19-25 C. In the sun on our terrace 35 C!
It has been a gorgeous week. The nature is awakening rapidly, trees are sprouting
and new joys can be noticed every day. I have Anemone ranunculoides growing
in many places. Have not planted them, they have just appeared by themselves.

I don’t usually buy hydrangeas, neither in pot or as cut flowers,
because I don’t know how to take care of them.
As Mother’s Day present I got this gorgeous lilac hydrangea together with
a beautiful poetry book: To Mother, poems about life and love.

The book contains classic Finnish poetry of Eino Leino, Katri Vala,
Saima Harmaja, Uuno Kailas etc. Such a sweet gift.

FLOWERING EARTH
by Katri Vala (1901-1944)

The earth bubbling with purple lilac sprays,
white mildew of the rowans,
red star clusters of sticky catchflies.
Blue, yellow, white flowers
undulating as meadows of mad seas.
And the smell!
More wonderful than the holy incense!
Hot and vibrant and madly insane,
the pagan scent of the earth's skin!

Live, live, live!
Live furiously the high moment of life,
the petals extremely open,
live blooming fabulously.
Be delirious about the scent, the sun -
be drugged, live to the fullest!

What about the fact that death is coming!
What about that this multicolored beauty
falls withered onto the ground.
After all, we have blossomed once!
The sun has shone,
the great and burning love of heaven,
directly to our blooming hearts,
to the vibrating core of our being!

Thank you for all the lovely comments you leave week after week at Friday Bliss.
Wishing a sunny weekend!

Friday Bliss #96 - Visual Art Day

Today we celebrate in Finland The Visual Art Day. It is the birthday of our beloved painter Helene Schjerfbeck (1862-1946). I love her art and have seen her paintings in many museums & exhibitions and read her biography. She is famous of her brutal series of self portraits - HERE my post from the exhibition On my Travels I Found Myself at Ateneum Art Museum last winter.

I have this wonderful book with poems of Edith Södergran (1892-1923), illustrated with Schjerfbeck’s art. Södergran was Swedish-speaking, is highly praised, but died tragically young of tuberculosis. Poem Hunter has on their site  more translated poems. She loved cats. On the photo with Totti.
HIER zwei Gedichte von Södergran auf deutsch.

THE STARS
When night comes
I stand on the steps and listen,
stars swarm in the yard
and I stand in the dark.
Listen, a star fell with a clang!
Don’t go out in the grass with bare feet;
my yard is full of shards.

THE LAND THAT IS NOT
I long for the land that is not,
For all that is, I am weary of wanting.
The moon speaks to me in silvern runes
About the land that is not.
The land where all our wishes become wondrously fulfilled,
The land where all our fetters fall,
The land where we cool our bleeding forehead
In the dew of the moon.
My life was a burning illusion,
But one thing I have found and one thing I have really won -
The road to the land that is not.
***

Jag längtar till landet som icke är,
ty allting som är, är jag trött att begära.
Månen berättar mig i silverne runor
om landet som icke är.
Landet, där all vår önskan blir underbart upp-
fylld,
landet, där alla våra kedjor falla,
landet, där vi svalka vår sargade panna
i månens dagg.
Mitt liv var en het villa.
Men ett har jag funnit och ett har jag verkligen
vunnit –
vägen till landet som icke är.

Helles Pfingsten! - Bright Pentecost!

As it is Pentecost today and apple blossoms look so wonderful,
I like to share with you this poem by our beloved poet Eino Leino (1878-1926).
In Finnish we say: Heleätä helluntaita!  My own translation.

APPLE BLOSSOMS
My happiness blooms like an apple tree
in the light spring nights,
when spruce tops are bowing down
and maidens are deep in their dreams.

Those few nights around Pentecost,
those nights are grand and profound,
if only no wind came to blow,
the craved good fruit would ripen.

Oh Heaven, let it be placid now,
even if later You give us other!
Oh mighty Lord, protect now
the apple tree of an orphan!
- Eino Leino -

Herrlicher Herbst! - Delicious Autumn!

- George Elliot, Brief an Miss Lewis, Oktober 1, 1841

Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love - that makes
life and nature harmonise. The birds are consulting about their migrations,
the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground,
that one's very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent
that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it,
and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
- George Elliot, Letter to Miss Lewis, Oct. 1, 1841

I changed the background of Jutta’s orginal & created a bird gathering.

Friday Bliss #51 - Have Sun in Your Heart!

I saw this lovely poem on the blog of my blog friend Claudia. It is written by Cäsar Otto Hugo Flaischlen (1864 - 1920) and is originally written in German. I tried to interpret the poem in English, the German original is at the end. The week has been lovely: Finland has bathed in sun and summer temperatures. I have enjoyed from the bottom of my heart ❤︎

Have sun in the heart,
whether it storms or snows.
Whether the sky is full of clouds,
the earth full of strife!
Have sun in the heart,
then come what may,
it shines full light on you
the darkest day!

Have a song on the lips,
with a happy sound
it makes everyday life's
crowds step aside!
Have a song on the lips,
then come what may,
that helps you to get over
the loneliest day

Have a word for the others
in sorrow and in pain
and tell what keeps you
so joyful and gay:
Have a song on the lips,
never lose the faith
have sun in the heart,
and everything will be bright!

Hab Sonne im Herzen,
ob's stürmt oder schneit.
Ob der Himmel voll Wolken,
die Erde voll Streit!
Hab Sonne im Herzen,
dann komme, was mag,
das leuchtet voll Licht dir
den dunkelsten Tag!

Hab ein Lied auf den Lippen,
mit fröhlichem Klang
und macht auch des Alltags
Gedränge dich bang!
Hab ein Lied auf den Lippen,
dann komme, was mag,
das hilft dir verwinden
den einsamsten Tag

Hab ein Wort auch für andre
in Sorg und in Pein
und sag, was dich selber
so frohgemut lässt sein:
Hab ein Lied auf den Lippen,
verlier nie den Mut,
hab Sonne im Herzen,
und alles wird gut!

Friday Bliss #18 - Beauty in the Polar Night

A few mobile shots from my early morning walk yesterday. One of the neighbours
has these beautiful fairy lights on her umbrella shaped elm ❤︎
Light in the dark polar night is so needed and people keep them till February on their yards...

This is my living Christmas tree, still bearing lights - a thuja Brabant at the house corner...

This week I read Aila Meriluoto’s poems - a writer who celebrated her 95th birthday yesterday.
She wrote poems of this collection at the age over 80 - how great is that!
HERE some of her older poems translated into English.

We long lived women, ---
We never stop, we only live. Ruthlessly.
...

Let’s taste together pure this. Existence.

In clothes I don’t mind pink, but it is great in tulips ❤︎

Wishing you all a beautiful winter weekend!
