Happy Independence Day Finland!

The traditional Finland’s Independence Day reception at the Presidential Palace has been canceled for the second year in a row - due to the deteriorating situation with Covid in recent days. President Sauli Niinistö and Mrs. Jenni Haukio were to invite people who have worked for the good of health and Finnish society during the coronavirus pandemic. The total number of invited guests was only 200 as in normal times it is over 1800.

Me and hubby celebrate the Independence Day with a good dinner, just two of us. Reading and listening to music, watching festive programme on television. A quiet day this year, too.

The traditional students' torchlight procession runs today too from 

the chapel of Hietaniemi Cemetery (soldier's graves), ending at Senate Square. 

This is an event to be held in several university cities on Finland 's Independence Day, 

the first torchlight procession was held in Helsinki in 1951.

In honor of Finland's Independence on December 6th

Happy Independence Day Finland!

At first congratulations to Finland on our 103rd independence day.

This year independence celebrations are broadcasted and every Finn can participate,

 announces The President:

"Finland’s Independence Day will be celebrated this year in a new way. 

Instead of the traditional reception attended by invited guests, President of the Republic of Finland 

Sauli Niinistö and Mrs Jenni Haukio will invite all Finns to celebrate Independence Day remotely."

And then some cosy entrances in the neighbourhood.

Unfortunately almost all the snow had melted away when I took the photos,

but practically every house had stars on the windows and fairy lights to decorate the darkness.

This orange modern house is a bold exception among the pastel tones!

Today we celebrate in Finland our102nd Independence Day. 
The festivities of the day include military parades, the honoring of the heroes of war and
 a reception at the Presidential Palace organized by the President of the Republic of Finland. 
Finnish embassies & offices abroad also organize similar receptions.

Many European countries celebrate today St. Nicholas' Day and 
Spain celebrates La Constitución española ratified after Franco on Dec 6 1978.

BLUE & WHITE are beloved patriotic colors to us Finns.  For today I searched for photos
that symbolize Finnishness to me:  blue sky, pure snow, blue & white flowers, 
midsummer roses, sprouting birches, pines, spruces & forest, ...

Finland is Finnish and Finland is Swedish

Finland is Sami and also Finglish.

Finland is far away and Finland is near,

mobile and global and digi and dear.

Young Finnish Talents

The presidential Independence Day reception was a success and very touching
with interviews of 100 years old veterans and different people,
sparkling fashion and great music. All the media is filled with reports and highlights.

We have so, so many young talents in Finland.

So I want to present these three musicians who performed yesterday at the afterparty

of Independence Day reception.

First there is this stunning looking Jenni Vartiainen, 35 years
who enjoys a huge popularity in Finland with her four albums and great voice.

Then we have this amazing guitarist Petteri Sariola, 35 years, 

a musician in 5th generation in his family. He composes, has published three albums 

and plays in a company called Dead Sirius 3000.

Then we have this young & perky & energetic redhaired Sanni, 25 years.

She has written lyrics since childhood and her newest hit is 

JACUZZI that takes us to sunny Sicily.

Fourth young Finnish talent that I present you is the actor Jasper Pääkkönen, 38 years.

He acted in Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman that is nominated for Golden Globe .
The winner ceremony takes place on January 6.  Exciting.

Jasper looked this handsome yesterday with his beautiful spouse,
Filippino-Spanish supermodel Alexandra Escat.

Well, it i might be time to land back from stars to my normal ordinary everyday life :)

Today Finland celebrates its 101th Independence Day.

Since 1922 nearly every year there has been a presidential Independence Day reception,

the venue being the gorgeous empire style Presidential Palace in the center of Helsinki.

At the reception in 1965: the popular actor Tarmo Manni greeting

We have a habit of lighting two white or blue & white candles 
on the window sills to honor our independence.

THIS YEAR ENVIRONMENTAL THEME

The President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö will host Finland’s Independence Day reception 
together with his spouse Mrs Jenni Haukio on 6 December 2018. 

A total of 1,700 people have been invited to attend the reception - in particular Finns who 
have made both small and large efforts to promote sustainability and the environment.

DECORATIONS IN WHITE AND GREEN

The main colours used for decorations will be white and green: lilies, roses and tulips; 

blue cornflowers and hydrangeas as well as many other natural materials gathered from 

the grounds of Kultaranta - the summer residence of the President of Finland.

Onnittelen kotimaatani Maamme-laulun sanoin ja eri vuodenaikojen kuvin.

HAPPY 100TH INDEPENDENCE DAY FINLAND!

The date is tomorrow, on the 6th of December.

I congratulate my homeland with the lyrics of our national anthem and photos of different seasons.

In my mind when making these collages were the beautiful Finnish summer, so longed for 

after a long winter, and also the beauty of the snow.

And of course the colors of our flag - blue & white.

The 6th of December Approaching

 I went to a garden center / florist shop to see what they have to offer.

The coming 100th Independence Day of Finland could well be seen.

A lot of white flowers, blue & white candles, Finnish flags, blue pots etc.

Because of my munching cat Sissi I bought only two small

white Christmas cacti that I can keep away from her. They stay in big lanterns.

I bought also a blue metal pot, some Finnish flags & candles.

By now our beautiful snow has all disappeared.

Today I spent 2 hours raking the leaves of Coryllus avellana.

The garden looks nice and tidy - I am satisfied & happy.
