Garden Mix, Mid August

August continues sunny and oh so beautiful, even so that I don’t complain about

the lack of rain. I have divided perennials and replanted some plants to a better spot.

I know, I am early. But this job is much nicer to do now in shorts and top than in the autumn rains.

Here some blues & whites blooming now. 

Aconitum lycoctonum subsp. neapolitanum, Veronica longifolia & phlox.

The bees love Veronicastrum virginicum even if the blooming is almost over.

The blooming of hemerocallis is almost over. I hesitated with the name of this beautiful

brownish red one. It is Sammy Russel!

Echinops sphaerocephalus / Great globe-thistle grows on a sunny & dry spot.

It is 150 cm high! 

We have a tiny, tiny woods near one property border.

I made a path for me and the kitties to walk and shall plant groundgovers & other plants.

Let’s consider this as a before photo, next summer I will show how it looks after.

Friday Bliss #105 - Less is More

Today I have a very simple & very quick flower arrangement.

I took a few late summer bloomers, Chelone obliqua & phlox and used my purple bottles 

and a tealight holder. Voilà, nothing more is needed.

Most of you know that my cat Sissi munches all my bouquets if left standing free inside the house.

That is why I have some big lanterns to host cutflowers and green plants. 

Here the tealight holder is in my big lantern with purple carnations,

which are still in bud. It feels wonderful to decorate now that our home

starts to look cosy and comfortable. Clearing the mess & renovating is so rewarding!

Friday Bliss #101 - A Buddha Again!

I visited Viherpaja, the garden center which has a Japanese garden under roof. 

I have never seen their Japanese garden in the summer, usually go there in the spring 
to see pink cherries in bloom. It was green and the background music was calming.

I seem to have an affection to buddhas: when I see one, I have to buy it. 
I bought also this white vase and filled it with phloxes & Veronicastrum virginicum.

Friday Bliss #46 - Hot in Colours, too!

The week has been hot, but fortunately not as hot as in southern Europe.

Our 30 C is tolerable but nearly 40 C would not be, at least not for me.

In the garden the colours turn stronger, although my orange daylilies don't bloom yet.

First ones to start bold August colours are hollyhocks, in red and black.
I bought seeds of ’Nigra’ but one is this fabulous red.
Snails or slugs eat up their leaves but in spite of that they bloom.

Eryngium alpinum seems so hard that you doubt if there is any nectar for bees.
But this guy was there for a long time changing from one flower to another.
He was a bit too quick for me :)

This year Ligularia przewalskii looks very modest, so this photo is from last year.

Here is a traditional old Phlox that we call Lilac phlox. This is high and slender needing

a support sometimes. Precisely lilac colour but no lilac fragrance though.

Floral Bliss #83

Aconitum napellus and Phlox paniculata are at their best right now.
At the moment I have four varieties of phlox:
This two coloured, soft pink, white and lilac.
I have donated my brighter phlox to my daughter-in-law.
My aconitums come from my mother's garden, that is why they are dear to me.

Ukonhatut ja syysleimut ovat kauneimmillaan.
Leimuja löytyy neljää väriä, kirkkaimmat olen lahjoittanut miniälle.
Ukonhattuni ovat peräisin äitini puutarhasta ja siksi erityisen rakkaita.

Pure Magic in Purple

Clematis Negritjanka is my oldest and most beautiful clematis. It blooms abundantly year after year while other varieties make no show. Negritjanka is a cross between C. 'Gypsy Queen' and C. viticella. It is a robust, fast-growing clematis with large, open flowers. Its flowers are dark as night. The contrasting yellow-white anthers add its charm. Negritjanka belongs to pruning group 3 - cut down every spring; raised by M I Orlov in 1964, Kiev, Ukraine.

The Phlox paniculata in the photos is an old traditional phlox that has survived in old Finnish gardens. This treasure is high and has a lilac color - that's why it is called Lilac Phlox.

Negritjanka on upeimmin kukkiva kärhöni, vanhin ja yhtä ihana vuodesta toiseen ❤︎ Lukuisia kärhöjä olen menettänyt, mutta Negritjanka ilahduttaa joka kesä. Yöntummalla taustalla keltaiset heteet suorastaan loistavat. Tämän kärhön on jalostanut ukrainalainen M. I. Orlov 1964. Leikataan alas vuosittain.

Syreenileimun olen saanut taimivaihdossa. Tämä aarre on korkea ja pienikukkainen. Luulen ettei tätä ihanaa maatiaiskasvia löydy taimistoilta.
