Perjantain parhaat - The Best of Friday

It is December, and nobody asked if I was ready.

Estherin perjantain parhaat
Five on Friday

Itse aion tänään viritellä joulukyntteliköt ikkunoihin.
Jotain pahanmakuista katkerosprayta ostettiin eilen.
Toivottavasti se pitää Sissin pienet hampaat erossa kyntteliköistä.
Mukavaa ensimmäistä adventtia!

My intention is to place electric candles on the window sills.
I have bought some very bitter spray to keep my Empress Sisi of Austria away from them.
Wishing you all a lovely first advent, stay cosy, drink glögg & keep warm!

Perjantaimyyssit - Friday Cosy - DIY

My blog friend Taina has this fun new link-up called Perjantaimyyssit. The idea and the word come from the Swedish word Fredagsmys meaning approximately Friday Cosy. The aim is to attack the grey & dark autumn and lift up the spirits. Every post shall do that brightens our lives & Friday evenings: cosy things, good food, friends & family etc. For my foreign blog friends I'll link this fun site that explains the meaning of some Scandinavian words.

Tainalla on tämä uusi kiva viikottainen linkki - Perjantaimyyssit. Idea ja sana juontuvat ruotsin kielestä Fredagsmys. Tarkoitus on torpedoida syksyn harmaus ja ankeus ja tuoda kodikasta iloa perjantai-iltoihin. Kaikki käy, mikä ilmentää kivaa oloa: kodikkaat asiat, hyvä ruoka, ystävät etc. Löysin tämmöisen kivan saitin joka kertoo ei-skandinaaveille meidän sanojemme merkityksiä. Kurkkaa.

DIY
The maple leaves are falling down - so plenty of free material. I made a wreath out of them. But was a bit late and the rains have done theirs - a lot of spots on the leaves. Maple leaves dry beautifully and last for a long time. The wreath can decorate a door, a wall or a candle.

In the garden there is a lot to do. Nothing can be done as it rains every day... I hope I find the inspiration to clean the house thoroughly  next week and put some lights and autumn decorations!

2016
This is my maple leaves & Sorbus berries bouquet from last year. It was nice on the terrace table and lasted long. Now it is raining constantly, so no idea to decorate the terrace.

This is my last up-to-date garden post of this summer season.
Of course there are a lot of summer memories in my archives...
Many thanks to Loretta and Wolfgang for the lovely company ❤︎

I attach here a photo of the young wood pigeon I  saw through my kitchen window the other day.
Poor creature - so alone. Fortunately, my husband feeds the birds during the winter.

What belongs to your Friday Cosy?
Mitenkä sinä aiot tänään myyssäillä? Mukavia perjantaimyyssejä!

Kukkailottelua - Garden Happiness

Esther on julkaissut kaksi runokirjaa:
Herkin liidoin sinisiipi ja Surun tie / Mediapinta 2017.
Jälkimmäisen olen lukenut ja se kuvaa riipaisevasti surutyötä äidin kuoleman jälkeen.
Kiitos runoistasi Esther ❤︎

The garden offers still a lot of bouquet materials.
My bouquet in accordance with The Poetry Moon Festival's love theme
reflects the fact that love is wild & wonderful but has its darker shades too.
My friend Esther Helmiä lives in Germany and has published 2 poetry books.
I have read The Road of Grief that was written after the death of her mother.
Thank you so much Esther for the poems ❤︎

en minä ole vielä valmis
olen hetken punaisessa unelmassani
läsnä illan suudelmalle
❤︎
no, I'm not ready yet
I'll stay for a moment in my red dream
present for tonight's kiss

innoissani katselen säteiden piiloutumista
aurinko painuu toiseen ulottuvuuteen
minun matkani on alussa
sinussa
❤︎
I look excited the sun beams hiding
the sun descending into another dimension
my journey is in the beginning
in you

kuulen kuinka sanasi uppoavat sieluni säkeisiin
hermoratani ympärille kietoutuen
soiden ikiunessani kauniisti
unohtumattomasti

sormesi soittaessa minua
❤︎
I hear how your words blend in the verses of my soul
intertwine with my neural pathways
that beautiful music in my dream
everlasting, for ever

when your fingers play me

ilma täyttyy, odotusta
olen yhtä kuin sateen ropina ihollasi
katseemme kohdatessa
aurinko punastuu
❤︎
the air is filled with expectation
I'm the pitter-patter of rain on your skin
when our eyes meet each other
the sun blushes

kun ajattelen sinua
silmissäni kyynel on ilonpisara
olet minulle niin paljon
loputon uni
unelmien taivas

eikä sille ole loppua.
❤︎
when I think of you
the tear of my eye is a tear of joy
you are so much to me
an endless dream in the night
the sky of my dreams

never ending

Happy Midsummer!

Eino Leino (1878 – 1926) was a Finnish poet and journalist and is considered one of the pioneers of Finnish poetry. His poems combine modern and Finnish folk elements. The style of much of his work is like the Kalevala and folk songs. Nature, love, and despair are frequent themes in Leino's work. He is beloved and widely read in Finland today. His poem Midsummer is very well-known.

Juhannus

Minä avaan syömeni selälleen
ja annan päivän paistaa,
minä tahdon kylpeä joka veen
ja joka marjan maistaa.

Minun mielessäni on juhannus
ja juhla ja mittumaari,
ja jos minä illoin itkenkin,
niin siellä on sateenkaari.

Midsummer

Trusting, my heart I open and take
the daylight there to shine,
I want to bathe myself in every lake
and taste all berries fine.

Deep in my mind I celebrate Saint John
and the midsummer night,
and, in the evenings, If I cry anon
there's a rainbow bright.

- translated by Maria Magdalena Biela

Mittsommer

Ich werde mein Herz aufmachen
und den Tag glänzen lassen,
Ich werde jeden See baden
und alle Beere schmecken.

In meinem Kopf ist es Hochsommer
und Feier und Mittsommer,
und soll ich abends weinen,
so wird es ein Regenbogen sein.

- übersetzt von mir

Fiesta at Countryside

My sweet granddaughter Helmi finished high school  with great grades and got her white student cap. Now university either in Aberdeen or in Glasgow waits for this eager psychology student. Her graduation party was held at Siuntio, a rural community at less than hour's drive from Helsinki.

Helmi's brother Hannes celebrated his 16th birthday and finished his primary school with excellent grades.
High school now waits this handsome 190 cm tall young man!

Helmi's family had booked this pretty Fanjunkars Cottage that has great history. So I'll tell a bit about it. One of our most important Finnish writers, Aleksis Kivi  (see more at the link!) lived here between 1864 - 1871. His landlady was Miss Charlotta Lönnqvist who offered home and creating peace for this poor writer. Those years at Fanjunkars were the most productive in Kivi's life. He wrote there also his great novel Seven Brothers.

Helmi's cousins are pretty and sweet, like taken from Carl Larsson's paintings!

After the war Fanjunkars Cottage remained in the area that had to be rented to Soviet Union. Sadly under those years the cottage got ruined, only the stone foundation was left. The idea to rebuild Fanjunkars lived for long and gladly finally in 2003 the construction could be started. Three years later this pretty culture house was ready. The local council of Siuntio meets sometimes there and the cottage can be rented for private purposes as well.

In the cottage there is a museum room showing portraits and the writing place of this great writer. Our happy graduate celebration was a sunny success in this beautiful cultural environment. The table was filled with all kinds of delicious stuff - thanks to my dear daughter-in-law!

I hope you enjoyed my happiness and this little piece of our culture.

Puutarhaonnea & Kukkailottelua

This has been a cold week, but the rain was needed.
This week my pink Clematis alpina has brought me the most joy.

This clematis is very vigorous and funny:
It climbs on our house ladders and reaches the roof and eaves - and we have a high house.
The blooms are so high that they are difficult to admire.
I should replant it elsewhere because cutting down does not help.

This is probably a seedling from antragene Ruby - paler and lighter than the original.
I have got this clematis 8 years ago in a plant exchange happening.

Satu - Fairy Tale

Makrotex-haasteena on tällä viikolla SATU. Kuvasin alkuvuodesta julkaistua kirjaa Pohjoismaiset jumalolennot - eräänlaisia satujahan nämäkin ovat.

The Makrotex Challenge of the week is FAIRY TALE. I took a few photos from my book Nordic Pagan Gods - these are a kind of fairy tales as well.

Thor - god of thunder; Ukkosenjumala Tor

Pohjoisen muinaiset pakanajumalat elävät myös meidän nykypäivän ihmisten elämässä - vaikkapa viikonpäivissä:
  • Tiistai, tisdag, tirsdag on saanut nimensä jumalalta nimeltä Tyr
  • Keskiviikko, onsdag, Odens dag ylijumala Odinilta
  • Torstai, torsdag Odinin pojalta, ukkosenjumala Torilta
  • Perjantai, fredag rakkauden jumalatar Friggiltä
  • Islantilaisen Arnaldur Indridasonin dekkareissa vilahtelevat niinikään vankat uskomukset islantilaisten piilokansaan, huddufolkiin.

The frightening weapon of Thor - Torin pelottava nuija

The ancient Nordic pagan gods live still today, especially in the names of weekdays:
  • Tuesday - tiistai, tirsdag, tisdag comes from a god called Tyr
  • Wednesday - keskiviikko, onstag, Odens dag from the supreme god Odin
  • Thursday - torstai, torsdag from Odin's son Thor who is god of thunder
  • Friday - perjantai, fredag from Frigg who is god of love
  • In the detective stories of Arnaldur Indridason, an Icelandic writer, there are many hints to huddufolk - hidden people.

Ragnarök - the end of the worlds - maailmojen loppu

The ancient pagan gods are very energetic, always hustling something. They are in constant war against each other but the magical realism is hilarious: those mutilated and slaughtered to dead while fighting shall return to live - safe and sound! - in the evening and continue their feasts and drinking and playing.

Sunny Tulipa tarda

Tulipa tarda on matala ja pienikukainen ns. kasvitieteellinen tulppaani.
Näitä on levinnyt sinne tänne ja poimin muutaman pieneen maljakkoon.

I picked a few Tulipa tardas into a tiny vase.
Not much talking, a busy week in the garden!

Sunny weekend! - Aurinkoista viikonloppua!
