Garden Mix, Mid August

August continues sunny and oh so beautiful, even so that I don’t complain about
the lack of rain. I have divided perennials and replanted some plants to a better spot.
I know, I am early. But this job is much nicer to do now in shorts and top than in the autumn rains.
Here some blues & whites blooming now.

Aconitum lycoctonum subsp. neapolitanum, Veronica longifolia & phlox.

The bees love Veronicastrum virginicum even if the blooming is almost over.

The blooming of hemerocallis is almost over. I hesitated with the name of this beautiful
brownish red one. It is Sammy Russel!

Echinops sphaerocephalus / Great globe-thistle grows on a sunny & dry spot.
It is 150 cm high!

We have a tiny, tiny woods near one property border.
I made a path for me and the kitties to walk and shall plant groundgovers & other plants.
Let’s consider this as a before photo, next summer I will show how it looks after.

Happy gardening!

Between the Rains

Today it is a rainy day at last in Finland!
I took a few quick shots between the rains. We have many curved paths in the garden,
but in front of our garage there is a straight pavement plus straight long lower bed.
Something is blooming throughout the summer. At the moment Hemerocallis &
Veronicastrum virginicum. There are still some late bloomers to come.

This is some Aconitum. I suspect it is Aconitum lycoctonum subsp. neapolitanum.
I have got it in a plant swap and the good thing is that it needs no support
and spreads very well.

The Phlox are still mainly in bud.

To the right from the long flower bed  there is a small patch of lawn & rose shrubs.
Because it is a sunny & dry spot this big Echinops sphaerocephalus / Great globe-thistle
grows there. Its height is from 150 cm till 200 cm!

Happy weekend. I hope you’ll get some refreshing rain as well.

Friday Bliss #103 - Floating Waterlily

I have used this green glass bowl many times for floating flowers.
A couple of weeks ago I photographed this creamy waterlily. The pink ones bloomed earlier.
I even had a pink peony as a symbol for my linkup.

Happy weekend!

New Garden Lighting

It has been a wonderful sunny week, a lot to do but productive.
As I told you in my previous post, me and hubby have been installing new garden lamps.
These were stored in the garage for at least five years, bought on sale years ago.
Installing was a tough job: The lamps are high,  max 250 cm but we put them about my height
170 cm. They had to be anchored in heavy concrete tiles 40x40 cm. Hubby put two one on the other
and drilled the anchoring bolt holes. Installing took its time, but I am so happy!

We have three squirrels visiting - this is the best I can do with my camera.
One of them runs all over and Sissi behind on the leash. It is like a game: come and get me!
We covered the concrete tiles with natural stones & crushed stone.

A pair of fake ducks on my pond. One visiting cute dog was a bit afraid of them...
As to flowers a lot is blooming, for you a pink selection.

Wishing you sun and relaxation for the weekend!

Garden Joys of Early August

I have a many meters long flower bed beside our carage.
On the lawn side there are growing low plants with foliage of different colors:
brown Heuchera, silver grey Hosta ’Halcyon’ and this low green-yellow hosta.
This bloomed like never before in early August! I am not quite certain of its name.
I have listed it as Hosta fortunei ’Aureomarginata', but it could be also 'Golden tiara’.
I know that there are hundreds of hosta varieties, but can you help me with its name?
It is low and the flowers were very abundant and deep lilac.

Welcome for a Green Visit!

At he moment my garden is more green than blooming. When we moved here, there were no plants, no hedges, no nothing, only lawn in a bad condition. My aim was to bring green and different shades & shapes of foliage, and that’s what I have now.

It was a lovely August day today, and I was out in the garden replanting for hours. I feel thankful for my health and for the fact that I still have muscle power to dig, dig and dig! I’m thankful for my husband also, who helped me to clear from weeds and unwanted plants one spot in the garden. It is ready for planting - think of bare virgin soil! and the planting is going to happen tomorrow!

I don’t know the name of this Veronica, but it is beautiful, pretty high
and stands straight without  support.

Clematis integrifolia ’Petit Faucon’ has bloomed for weeks.
It needs support and its seedheads are very decorative.

This cream white Aconitum looks really beautiful against the dark-leaved ’Diabolo’.
Behind also a row of Rodgersia aesculifolia.

Was plant shopping for the autumn recently...

Still some solitary rose blooming among the reddening rose hips...
This is Rosa rugosa ’Rotes Meer’.

Although plastic, this pair of ducks looks cute swimming in my garden pond :)
