Garden Mix Early July

Some impressions of blooming plants at the beginning of July.
The weather is warm, sunny & so nice, but the garden needs desperately rain.
Lilium martagon blooms in many spots. Here behind them the butterfly like
Gillenia trifoliata. I have two big plants of them and they look really nice.

Clematis recta blooms abundantly and I noticed that it is very lasting in bouquets.
Clematis Petit Faucon blooms not very abundantly,
but its deep blue color is stunning and it makes beautiful seedheads.
Meconopsis betonicifolia is at the end of its blooming which was nice this year.

Spiraea - Like Cotton Candy

Makrotex asks for something PINK. I have a few species of Spiraea japonica.
’Odensala’ has the biggest flowers - they are like cotton candy.
These are modest low shrubs that bloom with the same year’s sprouts.

Lysimachia mummularia grows all over on its own under shrubs.

Surprise - No Wind, no Rain!

These first days of July have felt like the summer has been cancelled in Finland. Every day rain & stormy winds. The summer is so important to us, having long cold winters. The joy of gardening was swept by this unbelievable July weather. This morning no wind, no rain - I could not believe my eyes.  Of course it was still very wet after the night rain. Yesterday my arch of parthenocissus fell down, but luckily my husband got it standing again. But the toughest plants still bloom.

The joy of this sunny morning won’t last for long. Tomorrow’s forecast looks like this.
The lyrics of this song comfort me!

White Beauties of the Week

My garden suffered actually no rain damages during this wet & windy week.
Secretly the old & big shrubs of Philadelphus coronarius have started to bloom.
I have three of them in a row and they need pruning again in the autumn or next spring.

The other white blooming beauty is Clematis recta ’Atropurpurea’
- not easy to photograph, but it has enlightened my week.

Many different flowers are in bloom, here a lilac Tradescantia. I like them very much
and have many colors of it: lilac, dark blue & heavenly blue, purple & white.

Welcome to Morning Tour in My Garden!

I photographed early this morning some views of my garden.
The overall outlook is not very lush because I have rearranged the plantings a lot.
The summer is not the best season to replant, but it is much nicer to do in a lovely weather.

Lavatera thuringiaca and Veroniga virginica ’Alba’  grow besides ’Diabolo’.

In front of our terrace there are blooming Phlox paniculata ’Lilac phlox’ and
clematis  integrifolia 'Petit Faucon’. Sometimes this clematis has five petals
but this summer mostly four. Its seedheads are very decorative!

The funniest plant in bloom is Dipsacus fullonum.
It self seeds moderately and pops up in unexpected places. I like it and let it grow.

Tradescantia Andersoniana-group plants are also funny and I like them.
But somehow they are challenging to photograph. I have four colours of them.

My other phloxes grow in a shady bed, so they are not yet in full bloom.

The cherries are ripe and we are getting a LOT of plums!

Two years ago I replanted my daylilies and don’t know who is who.
That is why I have some growing in pots in order to group them better this summer.
They are still in bud.

To finish a photo from earlier years. Wishing you a colourful weekend!

Friday Bliss #43 - Charming Scent

I have been working hard in the garden between rain showers.
It feels that the shovel and the harrow have grown as extensions in my hands :)
But all the borders and plants are in check - at least for a short moment.
The charming scent of  Philadelphus coronarius has made my work a bit lighter.

In the afternoons & evenings I have watched Wimbledon. So interesting - the tournament
has offered already a few surprises as many hot names were sent to chorus.
I’ll list a couple of names, more you can see HERE.
The Americans are going strong: Reilly Opelka beat Stan Wawrinka & Sam Querrey
Dominic Thiem (rank 4)! Astonishingly the Czech Jiri Vesely beat Alexander Zverev (rank 5)!

This young star has risen to the crème de la crème of tennis!
At only 18 years Felix Auger-Aliassime has reached the rank 21.
"A New Eminence For Canadian Tennis" - says essentiallysports.com

Wishing happy weekend!
