Maija’s Cottage is an extension of Restaurant Wanha Mylly, situated on the grounds of 

Herttoniemi Manor in Helsinki. It was closed during my visit in June.

Herttoniemi Manor Park - English Garden

I visited The Herttoniemi Manor Park at the end of June and have posted two posts
from the baroque style part: stunning old trees and peonies. Today some impressions 
from the wild English style landscape park with ponds, gazebos and wildlife.

It was a green oasis. Winding paths and numerous ponds created a natural impression.

This was really worth a visit! All around there must have been millions and millions of ferns.

The world is so big for baby ducks!

This guy was comfortably pondering his own thoughts and did not move a bit.

In the English style part ythere was the other of the manor’s neoclassical gazebos. 

This octagonal building was designed by German architect Carl Ludvig Engel.

Peonies in Herttoniemi Manor Park

Herttoniemi Manor has colorful past & has had many lords. One of them was Augustin Ehrensvärd (1710-1772), the designer of the Viapori fortress. He established a brick factory on the manor's property to produce building materials for Viapori's fortifications. Later there was a porcelaine factory in the main building, but it was renovated in 1815 to home use according to the plans of architect Pehr Granstedt.

The park got its present look in 1810s, too. The park is divided into two parts: one part is a Baroque-style garden with flower plantations, the other part is an English style landscape park with ponds, gazebos and wildlife. In the manor’s Baroque-style garden there are a lot big lilac shrubs, of course not in bloom during my visit. Red peonies were on fire in the sun.

These circles of Matteuccia struthiopteris could be used in home gardens, too.

They looked so beautiful.

T in die neue Woche

Herttoniemi Manor in Helsinki is a museum as well, but open only on Sundays.

On a Monday I could not visit the museum, only the gorgeous big manor park.

Huge Old Trees of Herttoniemi Manor Park

I found a gem & visited The Herttoniemi Manor Park - a wonderful oasis, surrounded by busy roads and modern life of Helsinki. The park dates back to the 1760s, and it got its present look in the 1810s. The park is divided into two parts: one part is a regular Baroque-style garden with flower plantations, the other part is an English style landscape park with ponds, gazebos and wildlife. 

In the manor’s purely Baroque-style garden, long lime alleys, lawns and ornamental shrubs form the overall look. I was totally mesmerised by the park’s gigantic limes, maples and oaks and I gladly share my gorgeous experience with Astrid at Mein Freund, der Baum - Tree, my Friend. No more presentations of these stunning different species. Perhaps the oldest date back to the early years of 1800.
