Searching for Spring

Lunta tuprutti taivaan täydeltä pääsiäismaanantaina, joten oli pakko lähteä etsimään kevättä jostain. Suuntasin siis taas Viherpajaan, Japanilaiseeen puutarhaan, mutta kylmien säiden vuoksi ei kukintaa eikä kasvua ollut vielä sielläkään näkyvissä. Hanami ajoittunee huhtikuun loppupuolelle; Viherpajan Facebook-sivuilla kerrotaan milloin se toden teolla alkaa. Kävin Viherpajassa jo helmikuun alussa Vihreää etsimässä.

It was pouring  snow on Easter Monday; I just had to search for spring somewhere! The Japanese Garden of Viherpaja is near to my home and a lovely place to visit throughout the year. Due to cold winter there was no sign of Hanami yet. It is estimated that the cherries shall be in full bloom in late April. In early February I paid my first visit - Searching for Green.

Viherpajan japanilainen puutarha on rakennettu vuosina 1985-1986. Tarkoituksena  on näyttää kuinka luonnon yksityiskohtia voidaan siirtää keinotekoiseen ympäristöön ja muodostaa niistä kaunis, harmoninen kokonaisuus. Japanilainen puutarha pyrkii viemään ihmisen huomion kokonaan: hetkeksi on ihana unohtaa ympäröivä maailma kiireineen ja rentoutua kuunnellen japanilaista musiikkia.

The Japanese Garden was built in 1985-1986. The aim is to show how beautiful natural elements can be put in an artificial surroundings and create a beautiful entity full of harmony. The Japanese Garden wants to conquer the visitor's attention totally for a while, make him forget the busy modern life and make him relax listening to Japanese music.

Kirsikoiden kukinta-aika vaihtelee vuosittain talven lämpötilojen mukaan; tänä vuonna se ajoittunee huhtikuun loppupuolelle. Ensiksi puhkeaa kukkaan japaninkirsikka Prunus Kiku-Shidare-Zakura kaartuen kaarisillan päälle; sitten on vuorossa Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' isoine kerrannaisine vaaleanpunaisine kukkineen.

The blooming season of the cherries varies from year to year according to the winter temperatures. This year the blooming shall occur in late April. Prunus Kiku-Shidare-Zakura starts the Hanami over the arch bridge; then Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan'  follows with its big double pink flowers.

Kasvit puutarhaan on hankittu ympäri maailmaa. Kalat on lennätetty Japanista. Ilman lämpötila ja kosteus mukailevat vuoden ympäri Tokion seudun vastaavia arvoja Japanissa.

The plants come throughout the world; the fish from Japan. The temperature and moisture are set to follow throughout the year those in the Tokyo area in Japan.

Rakkaita kasvimuistoja

Rosa rugosa 'Belle poitevine' - Thank you Mother ❤︎ 

Maatiaiskanasen blogissa oli juttua rakkaista kasvimuistoista, ja ajattelin minäkin tehdä pienen postauksen aiheesta talven iloksi. Luulen että kasvini menevät 50/50 ostettujen ja vaihdettujen suhteen. Ennen kuin kotilot tekivät Suomeenkin invaasionsa, osallistuin joka vuosi kasvinvaihtotapahtumiin. Kun näen näen nämä vaihdetut kasvit puutarhassa, muistan aina myös sen ihanan puutarhaystävän, jolta ne ovat peräisin ❤︎ Tärkeimmät ja rakkaimmat kasvini ovat kuitenkin lapsuuskotini puutarhasta. Sen kodin omistavat tänään toiset, mutta kasvit jatkavat täällä elämäänsä ja muistuttavat äidistä ja ihanista lapsuuskesistä.

Ich bin nicht sicher wie das Blogtitel übersetzt werden sollte, aber ich sage jetzt Hühnchen auf dem Land. In diesem Blog diskutierte man von wichtigen Erinnerungen an Pflanzen, und ich dachte auch einen kleinen Beitrag in der Mitte von Winter schreiben. Ich glaube, dass meine Pflanzen 50/50 im Verhältnis von gekauften und getauschten stehen. Bevor die Schnecken auch ihre Finnische Invasion machten, nahm ich jedes Jahr an viele Pflanzenaustausch teil. Wenn ich diese ausgetauschten Pflanzen im Garten sehe, erinnere ich mich immer an den lieben Gartenfreund, von dem die Pflanzen herkommen ❤︎ Meine wichtigsten und liebsten Pflanzen sind jedoch von meiner Mutter und meiner Kindheit. Heute andere Leute wohnen dort und meine Mutter ist nicht mehr da, aber die Pflanzen leben hier weiter und erinnern an Mutter und die sonnigen Kindheitssommer.

I'm telling you about the plants that have a special meaning to me. Maybe my plants lie in the ratio of 50/50 between exchanged and bought ones. Every time I see these exchanged plants in the garden I also remember the sweet garden friend from whom they came. My dearest plants come from my mother and my childhood home, 300 km far away. Today that house is owned by others and my mother has passed away, but the plants live here and remind me of her and the warm summers of childhood.

Mitä onni on?

Löysin Piian La La Lilja -blogista  kivan Kolme hyvää asiaa -haastepostauksen. Piia listaa hienosti pohdiskellen 5 x 3 hyvää asiaa elämässään, itse listaan vain kolme enkä paljon lurittele:) Tosiasiassa hyviä asioita on vaikka kuinka paljon, mutta nyt rennosti näin - ja etenkin lyhyesti!

What is happiness? I found a nice challenge at Piia's blog La La Lilja where she lists 5 x 3 good things in her life. I'll list here only three and keep it short. Actually there is a huge amount of good things, but this time I chose these. I am very brief, as always!

Luonto & puutarha & kukkaset

Vaikka puutarha ja luonto uinuvat lumen alla, elävää kasvi-iloa olen löytänyt kukkakaupoista, puutarhamyymälöistä ja Helsingin kaupungin talvipuutarhasta. Vielä hetki on odotettava luonnon heräämistä, mutta päivä on jo pitempi ja illat valoisampia.

Nature & garden & florals

Even though the garden and nature are sleeping under the snow blanket, there has been a lot floral joy  to be seen at the florist's, garden centres and the Winter Garden of the City of Helsinki. Still there is some waiting left until the nature awakens, but the days are already longer and the evenings lighter.

Ei puutetta mistään

En ole rikas mutta tulen mukavasti toimeen. On leipää ja puhdasta vettä, herkkujakin silloin kun haluan. Kun toukokuussa tulee kuluneeksi 100 vuotta sisällissodan päättymisestä, olen lukenut paljon aiheesta. Sodan päättyessä punavankeja oli valtava määrä, peräti 74 000. Heidän kohtalonsa oli kaamea: yli 11 000 kuoli vankileireillä, pääosin nälkään ja tauteihin. Ei tietysti voi yksioikoisesti syyttää viranomaisia, enkä usko että tietoisesti haluttiin päästä punavangeista eroon - siviiliväestökin kärsi nälkää. Mutta karmiva juttu tämä on. Jokaisella kansalla on häpeätahransa. Tämä on meidän.

No shortcoming of any kind

I am not rich but get along well. I have bread to eat and pure water to drink, even delicacies when I want. A hundred years ago Finland was in the middle of civil war. It ended with the whites beating the reds and communists. 74 000 reds were put in miserable prison camps with no decent food to eat, no pure water, no medical care. Over 11 000 lost their lives in those prison camps. Of course the white authorities cannot be blamed downright, for the famine in the country was severe. In May we 'celebrate' the 100th anniversary of our civil war - not much to celebrate, but we need to remember. Every nation has its shames to bear. This is ours.

Searching for Green

Outside there is no green to be seen, nor at the house, because of my cat Sissi.

But my longing for green was so great I had to pay a visit to

Garden Center Viherpaja - Green Workshop.

Their premises were full of green plants and the display was stunning,

I felt walking in a jungle.

They have also a fantastic Japanese Garden but it was not open yet.

Shall visit them again when the cherry trees are blooming.

Oli niin vietävä vihreän ikävä, että piipahdin Vantaan Viherpajan viidakkoon. Ja ihanaa oli.
Facebookista voi seurata milloin heidän fantastinen Japanilainen puutarhansa avautuu.

I bought this small & pretty Aloe that goes to a lantern,

so that Sissi can't munch it!

Kotiin ostin vain tämän pienen ja kivan aaloen,

jonka sijoitan kynttilälyhtyyn suojaan Sissiltä.

Have you ever seen Sansevieria in this form? I haven't.
