The Weekend Roundup X

Contains an X:
Reynoutria japonica is eXtra invasive and is listed among the alien species
that threat the original Finnish nature. Seen in the neighbourhood, not my garden.

Starts with X:
Xue Xinran is a Chinese-British writer. I have read her touching novel
Message from an Unknown Chinese Mother, Stories of Loss and Love (2010).
It tells about mothers and their baby girls during China’s one child policy.
Sorry had only book cover.

Contains an X & my favourite:
Lilies of the valley are eXtremely beautiful.
Did you know that they are Finland’s national flower?

Totally without an X:
Papaver orientale ’Olympia’ self seeds wherever it wants.
Here hugging a rugosa rose.

  1. I did not know that Lily of the Valley is Finland's national flower. It's very pretty. I've tried growing it and something always eats the bulbs. This is an eXtra delightful post.

    1. Lily of the Valley as our national flower is a bit odd choice imo. I think it was selected in general public vote. Their Finnish name, KIELO, is also a traditional girl’s name that for some reason is also often given to amiable cows: DD

  7. Ritta, your garden is sooo pretty. I also have looked at your later post, it takes a lot of work to keep it nice. I like your Lily of the Nile. I don't know much about them, we have a small bed of three with two blooming blue blossoms. We brought a couple here from our other place when we moved five years ago. They are easy to care for. Have you seen pictures of our back yard? It was landscaped with roses, a lone orange hibiscus, oleanders red and pink. One palm tree to replace the three that froze and two tall blueberry bushes to replace the bottle brush trees that also froze. They are background for our pool.
March 1, 2019 shows the yard in a freak snow and May 10 shows a large part of it, but not a real good photo.
    Bored? Sorry, I ramble.

  8. ...Reynoutria japonica is a threat to the entire world! Baby girls were endured during China's one child policy era. Lilies of the valley are e X tremely beautiful I did not know that they are Finland's national flower. Poppies are happy to grow where want, but so happy to grow where you want. Thanks Ritta for your visit, take care.

  10. Where we live, there are so many eXtra invasive species in our yard that exist. often the flowers in bloom are lovely, but the new thorns they produce are not!
