The Didrichsen Art & Home Museum was founded by a wealthy art loving couple. Architect Viljo Revell designed the building in very modern style. The location is beautiful very close to the sea on the island of Kuusisaari, Helsinki. Sculptor Henry Moore and Revell knew each other as they worked together in the design of Toronto City Hall and there are some beautiful sculptures by Moore.
Marie-Louise (1913–1988) & Gunnar (1903–1992) Didrichsen
by sculptor Laila Pullinen. Mr. Didrichsen was Danish born, moved to Finland very young
and started a succesful import & technochemical business.
I visited the museum before Christmas and they had displayed a corner of
Christmas dinner table, showing the visitor how a wealthy family would celebrate Christmas
in the 60s and 70s. Mrs. Didrichsen would wear a Chanel and the husband a tuxedo.
The large painting in blue & red is by Finnish Reidar Särestöniemi.
