May has continued chilly & rainy with day temperatures around 15 C and nights close to zero.
This means that new growth is very slow. So far only ground covers and maples are blooming,
lilacs showing tiny buds.
Yesterday was a historical day in Finland. President Niinistö and Prime Minister Marin
said yes to Nato in a joint statement and that Finland should leave its application
without delay. In less than three months there has been a radical opinion change.
Even PM Marin said in January that joining Nato during her government is highly unlikely.
The latest opinion polls show that 76 % of the Finns are for Nato.
Day before yesterday when PM Boris Johnson visited Finland a reporter asked president Niinistö
that isn’t applying for Nato considered a provocation by Vladimir Putin.
Niinistö said that ”You caused this yourself. Look in the mirror.” Video on Youtube.
Handsome grandson Anton (the one who plays icehockey) celebrated his Old People’s Day.
Old People's Day (de äldstes dag in Swedish) is a celebration by second-year
high school students, the most characteristic features being formal wear and
a dance performance, 'old dances’. This happening is celebrated throughout Finland
and the boys are handsome and the girls beautiful in their princess dresses.

Good morning Riita,
VastaaPoistathere is a lot to see and beautiful flowers.
It's cold where you are, we have the most beautiful weather here and I'm happy when I can go outside.
Politics is such a thing and I won't say anything more about it. I don't understand any more.
Have a good time and I send you my best regards, Eva
I don’t talk much about politics either, but this decision is very important to Finland. Have a sunny weekend.
PoistaBoth the photos of flowers and dances are absolutely beautiful. Anton looks very handsome. Enjoy the slow spring.
VastaaPoista-Soma
The vigor of the spring is unbelievable, even if it has been cool. The green is wonderful for the eye 💚💚
PoistaYour photos are beautiful, even if new growth is slow. I thought of you when I hear the news about Finland. Keep safe.
VastaaPoistaThank you. Hopefully everything goes well in regards to Nato.
PoistaPretty flowers are blooming everywhere. Your grandson has grown into a handsome young man.
VastaaPoistaAnton is a nice and handsome young man indeed.
PoistaYour grandson looks smart and handsome. True, May has not been any special, so far.
VastaaPoistaHappy weekend! 🌷
Happy weekendLuisella.
PoistaDraga Riitta,
VastaaPoistaNeinelesul joc si otravitorul interes politic al lumii paleste, pe langa magica PRIMAVARA si minunata FAMILIE!!!
Adorabile poze.
Imbratisari,
Mia
Thank you for your comment Mia, sunny weekend.
PoistaLovely photos of the ball - how charming! And the flowers are beautiful. The Nato issue must be stressful but realistically, it's only provocation if your neighbor planned on invading. If they stayed on their side of the border, then you being in Nato or not is irrelevant. It is unbelievable really that any of this is happening. Good luck
VastaaPoistaRussia’s attitudes, lies and attack on Ukraine are really incomprehensive. All this has stolen most of my energy. But the awakening spring is a great thing.
PoistaYou show flower-power from the spring - beautiful blossoms and the trees with mai-green looks so hopeful. Yes my mother and I hear the answer and it was a really good answer from your president!
VastaaPoistaGreetings from Germany
Kirsi
I was very proud of president Niinistö. Even his English sounded better on the interview with Boris Johnson.
PoistaDearest Riitta,
VastaaPoistaApril was (mostly) cold and rainy here, but spring has arrived in early May and summer has started in the last few days. Yesterday we had 30 degrees. It's raining again today, but that's supposedly just a brief interlude before a summery weekend...
Yes, NATO membership is now being discussed everywhere, including in Austria. I am in a conflict. I was always happy to live in a neutral state, but of course I also see the threat.
Your grandson Anton is really VERY handsome. I find it funny that the festival is called Old People's Day when I look at all these young people :-)
I wish you a wonderful and happy spring weekend, too!
All the best, Traude
Hi Traude,
PoistaI’ll explain a bit the idea behind The Old People’s Day. You see, those who will take their student examination in the spring leave the school dressing themselves as small kids. So now the second year pupils will be the oldest of the school. I hope you got the idea.
Yes Anton is smart, handsome and sporty. Every mother-in-love’s dream 😃
Gostei de ver estas belas fotografias.
VastaaPoistaUm abraço e bom fim-de-semana.

Bom fim-de-semana.
PoistaLovely flowers and gowns! It is good to see good these days. 💕
VastaaPoistaThe young look really sweet dancing old dances!
PoistaYea for Finland!!!!! If all the good people stand together we could change the trend toward darkness and nastiness.. there is more goodness in the world than evil. Your grandson and his dance are heart warming, all the kids are so beautiful. Your pictures are all so pretty, perfect shadows and light
VastaaPoistaWe are happy indeed now that this decision has been finally made! Young kids are all so beautiful. Happy weekend Leeanna.
PoistaThank you for hosting. Wishing you and Finland all the best!
VastaaPoistaWarmly welcome Cloudia, nice to get to know you.
Poista...it's tough living next to a bully!
VastaaPoistaYes it is, but could be worse.
VastaaPoistaHello Riitta, What a handsome young grandson you have. I have never heard of this celebration of "old people's days" and think it would be a lot of fun. Spring is such a beautiful time of year and I imagine you are so glad to see the early flowers blooming. The war in Ukraine has certainly caused a shift in thinking in many parts of the world.
VastaaPoistaI’ll pay a return visit Lorrie!
PoistaThe big change in opinion is understandable! Your handsome grandson is looking good in formal gear:)
VastaaPoistaLovely flowers and the young people look fantastic!
VastaaPoistaI hope the villain is defeated soon.
beautiful pictures of spring with delicate flowers. i like the maple blossom very much - here it's already over! anton is a very handsome young man. the girls will fawn over him ;))!

Thank you Traude.
PoistaPS: Didn't my other comment (from yesterday) get through?
VastaaPoistaIt came allright!
PoistaDearest Riitta; I always love to see gorgeous flowers from your country♬ Oh; I LOVE the way you make collage. I wish I will learn how to do from you; I know it is not possible though p;-)
VastaaPoistaLots of love; Miyako from Japan
I made these collages using Photoscape Miyako Warm greetings.
PoistaLiebe Riitta,
Leider muss man Putin alles zutrauen.
Ich wünsche Dir einen schönen Sonntag.
Viele liebe Grüße
Wolfgang
30 C is very hot for me, I prefer it cooler. Today Finland has made an official decision to apply for Nato membership. I think Sweden will do the same.
PoistaMe encantan las flores, tu nieto se ve muy guapo y los demás en el baile. Espero que a Finlandia le vaya todo bien, siempre te recuerdo cuando oigo hablar de tu país. Besos.
