Christmas Movie Traditions

My husband is a collector. He collects books, music instruments and also DVDs.
Many a time I feel pissed off with his stuff invading the whole house.
I have not calculated how many DVDs he has, hundreds.
They are from the time when Netflix, Viaplay & other streaming services did not exist.
He has also many Christmas movies, both sentimental drama and comics.
Some are watched every Christmas. I’ll present a few.
★ ★ ★

A Christmas Carol - Saiturin joulu 1984
This is a must every Christmas. There exist also newer versions of this Charles Dickens story
telling about Ebenezer Scrooge who does not understand the true meaning of Christmas.

It’s a Wonderful Life - Elämä on ihanaa 1946
I think that Finnish Broadcasting Company sends this black & white classic every Christmas!

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation - Joulupuu on kärvennetty - 1989
Well, what to say about the family Christmas of the Griswolds!!??
Things never run smoothly for Clark Griswold, his wife Ellen and their two kids.
This movie is hilarious and the cousin Eddie so hidious!
You might be interested what the actors do and how they look now. - See the link.

Home Alone - Yksin kotona 1990
This was a big hit also in Finland, the hubby has also number 2.
You might be interested how Macaulay Culkin & the other actors look now. - See the link.

Do you have any Christmas movie traditions?

As addition Bill Nighly’s Christmas is all Around
from the movie Love actually - Rakkautta vain. Thank you Sue for reminding me!

In my art group we have planned gift wrapping papers.
Here two traditional versions, based on a photo, ready for printing.

  1. Hello dear Riitta!
I admire my husband. He has great passions: books and films about beautiful Christmas themes.
Have a nice week for you and your husband.

    1. I love good films, we do not quite share our taste :) Happy Advent Lucia ❤︎

  2. En tiennyt noin montaa "joululeffaa" edes olevan.
Netflix, Viaplay ym. ovat vieneet monta joululahja-ideaa.

    1. Joululeffoja, lastenleffoja - kaikki hyllyt ja laatikot täynnä....

  3. Ihana mies sinulla:)♥ Nuo on aivan ihania jouluelokuvia ja mukavaa koko perheen katsottavaa! Leppoista joulun odottelua♥

    1. Hupsuja traditioita olla pitää :) Joulunodotusta Päden pajaan ❤︎

  4. We are also Christmas lovers and my husband likes to watch many Christmas movies. I am more ronkeli and watch only a few that I like. For instance "The Flight before Christmas"...the story of reindeer Niko!

    1. I’m also more ronkeli than my husband. Somewhere he has Niko too :)

  5. That's really nice of you sharing some of those Christmas movies. Your husband certainly has a large collection!
I enjoy the first two. One that we (mainly I) watch each Christmas is "Love Actually" and then for some laughs "Bad Santa"
Your Christmas wrapping papers are brilliant! Cheers to you :D)

    1. Hi Sue,
Thank you. In fact he has also ’Love actually’ somewhere - have to search. Also ’Bad Santa’ sounds familiar... Then of course he has Disney’s cartoons, Christmas with the Kranks / Lets skip Christmas - it is an endless list. And a movie that is a bit crazy and happens in California - I don’t recall its name?

      Cheers Sue ❤︎

  6. I like some of the old Christmas movies like Christmas in Connecticut and It Happened on Fifth Avenue. Scrooge is popular, and Christmas with the Kranks. It's fun to watch the old movies again and have that feel good feeling.
    Beautiful wrappings you've created!
    Happy Advent!

  7. Hello, I love "It's a wonderful life" and Miracle on 34th Street, the original movie. For a corny movie I like "The Santa Claus". Merry Christmas! Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week ahead!

  8. We love the old Christmas movies and just watched Christmas Vacation...so funny and cute. We also watched Christmas in Conneticut and The Bishop's Wife...they are both so good. I like Little Women too! Holiday hugs!

  9. Lovely . Keep commenting on my blog because I love your comments.

  10. Riitta - if we are in the right place at the right time, we might watch It's A Wonderful Life again, but with so many other movies that we haven't watched, we are much more likely to choose a new movie for a family movie night. Or we might watch something that some of us like but not everyone has seen - I really enjoyed the new Christopher Robin and think it would be a great movie to watch with our kids! Thanks for linking up to Mosaic Monday.

  11. Hi Riitta,
oh yes, I LOVE those old Christmas Movies too!
I am looking forward to watch them too during the Christmas days :O)
    Wishing you a wonderful week,
    Love and hugs, Claudia xo

  12. Onpa kiva, että on jouluperinteitä. Vaikka voin kyllä ymmärtää tuskan tavaran paljoudestakin... Ihanaa joulun odotusta!

  13. Thank you, Ritta, for sharing some of the Christmas movies. I’ve seen only Home Alone. Christmas Carol is only book. I’d like to try others, especially It’s a Wonderful Life.

  14. Felicidades por la colección de películas. Yo no tengo, pero si villancicos. Besitos.

  15. Eihän noita kaikkia edes ehdi jouluna katsella
