Floral Bliss #29

At first I want to thank you for your visits and lovely comments ❤︎
I am a bit late in return visiting but try to catch up.
There has been a few busy days.

Last Thursday I participated in Poetry Walking in the centre of Helsinki.
It was a celebration day of summer and the poet Eino Leino.
We were a bit over 20 persons who honored four poet statues and read poems. I enjoyed.

Larin Paraske (1833-1904) was an Ingrian oral poet. She interpreted poems of our
national epic Kalevala that was  first published in 1835. SHE is very male looking, also in photos.

Then from Saturday to Sunday I took part in Summer Reading Marathon.
The aim of these marathons is to read as much as possible in 24 hours.
This time 35 book bloggers participated. Fun but exhausting. I read only a bit over 400 pages,
some read over 1000. My choice for the marathon was this interesting nonfiction book
Sarah Bernhardt

Then there is tennis at Wimbledon going on. Last night I watched a thrilling five set match
Rafael Nadal vs Gilles Müller. Müller won finally.
But I guess return to my normal daily routine is about to happen. I'll soon come for a visit!

Rosa rugosa 'Schneekoppe' or 'Snow Pavement'

Schneekoppe is my favourite: Vigorous, wonderful color and blooms abundantly.

In the garden there is a lot going on too. So many flowers have opened in a few days
that it was hard to choose which to share. I decided on whites and very pale pinks.

Polemonium caeruleum - Lehtosinilatva

Achillea ptarmica - Koreakärsämö

Aruncus aethusifolius - Pikkutöyhtöangervo

Gillenia trifoliata with Delphinium - Pikkutöyhtöangervo
Gillenia is beautiful & delicate, but very challenging to photograph. I have 2 large plants.

Astrantia major - Isotähtiputki

Campanula latifolia - Ukonkello
THE LINK IS OPEN

  8. Wonderful photos and interesting events. Unfortunately the books of Helen Rappaport aren't aivable in German (have searched). In my Top20 of books are the autibiographical nouvels of Konstantin Paustovsky, about the revolution time too.
And this book describes the time more from the cultural sight

    1. Thank you Mascha for the tip. I'll see if I can find Paustovsky in English. I was so thrilled with Rappaport that I'm going to read her book: Jekaterinburg - The last days of the Romanovs.

    2. Mascha,
I found many Paustovski's books in Finnish. Can you tell which one you prefer? That book in your Amazon link is available in English in our library, so am going to read it!

    2. I stopped to add that's important and wonderful the passion for literature and art, as well; I agree that to read about various artists and their artworks is a delight for soul!
You know, I think that I already told you before that I've found a book called "Scandinavian Spring" ("Primăvara scandinavă" by Al. Căprariu edited in 1980) and it has three chapters about Finland, Laponia and Sweden. And there were included lyrics and that's how I discovered the poems of Edith Sodergran, Her works/ lyrism, it is said in this book, had influenced one of our simbolist poets. So, I think that I discovered thanks to this book, the poetry Finland-Swedish modernism of one of your important poets.
Thank you for these impressions/considerations shared over importance of literature&art and I wish you a lovely inspired evening to you!

    3. Your comment made me so glad Alexa <3 Yes, I remember you quoting Edith Södergran. She is one of the greatest. For you and everybody who likes poetry, here is a link to her poems translated into English. There is very loud advertisement that disturbs, sorry. But the poems are beautiful.

  13. Liebe Riitta,
    Alles Liebe

    1. Liebe Heidi,

Here is a German link telling you more about Schneekoppe. It is from 1985 and the fragrance is light, not strong. In my garden it is no ground cover, but very vigorous and blooms best of my roses. Height about 1.50. I have bought 2 bushes but added it from root sprouts. I gladly recommend!

      https://www.rosenhof-schultheis.de/Container/Moderne_Rosen/Bodendecker/Zartrosa/artikel_2288_Schneekoppe.html

On the same site there is also Zwerg - so lovely and Rotes Meer - very well blooming too. The soil in my garden is dry and sandy, that's why I have to choose these strong roses.

      Best regards, riitta
