Hyvän mielen haaste / Good Spirit Challenge

Kolme vastaan yksi. Saatuamme auton parkkiin isäntä kysyi mistä on kyse.

...

Opposite our home there is a primary school and the children’s school route runs via our small street. When we came home from shopping the other day, the school boys had something strange going on. One boy’s gloves, beanie and backpack laid scattered in the middle of the street and we had to stop the car. Then this boy collected his belongings and went another way home, the other three boys continued grinning.

The situation camed so quickly, but it seemed like bullying and snow scrubbing to us. Three against one. After we parked the car, my husband asked what it was all about. The three boys claimed that they were all friends. But my husband said that if he still sees something similar, he will call the police. Of course, our help was limited, but at least it became clear to these bullies that a passerby is watching and cares.

The Runeberg Cake

Color Collage:
This week’s shades of Värisilmä's interior paints are Reading moment, Princess and Prince.

The beginning of February is the time of the traditional Runeberg pastries. They are sweet and rich in calories, but taste oh so good! On top there is an icing sugar round with rasperry jam and the pastry is flavoured with rum. The name comes after our national poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804-1877), whose birthday is celebrated the 5th of February. According to the history his wife Fredrica used to bake them and today every commercial bakery has their own secret recipe. HERE one recipe in English.

Krapu w 6 - Murhasunnuntai / Murder Sunday

MURHASUNNUNTAI

On murhasunnuntain aika.

Crab is a 100 word Finnish writing challenge.
Words for the week 6 are traditional, tasteless, misleading.

MURDER SUNDAY

The old woman is exhausted, her withered arms suffer from lactic acid from week to week. It will be snowing forever, it seems. Yesterday, two Estonian young men had to be called in for help, but there was still left snow for her to shovel. Now she pulls on the wool socks and pours herself a hefty gin shot.

It's Murder Sunday. Her eternal favorites include Poirot and Marlowe, of course, although Marlowe is a traditional type of detective: hard-boiled smoker who swims in gin - but he is ah so charming, especially in Casablanca, whose lines the woman knows almost by heart.

Shabby Columbo is also brilliant: razor-sharp, though dressed in the tasteless and wrinkled overcoat. But all that is deliberately misleading. By pretending to be stupid, Columbo gets trapped all the rich murderers, who think they are invincible.

On Internet you can find many quotes of Marlowe:
"I don’t mind if you don’t like my manners. They’re pretty bad. I grieve over them during the long winter evenings."
- Marlowe, The Big Sleep

Friday Bliss #177 - Finnish National Ballet 100 Years

This year, the Finnish National Ballet is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Its first performance was seen on January 17, 1922, when the ballet master George Gé brought his own version of the Swan Lake. Gé had become acquainted with the Swan Lake in St. Petersburg before the Russian Revolution. The National Ballet has begun its anniversary with the same ballet, with choreography by David McAllister of Australia. The world of the ballet is very international: today 2/3 of the 76 dancers are of foreign origin. HERE you find a list of all the dancers, in case you wish to take a peek.

Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus situation, all performances have been canceled until the end of February. But the gala premiere was televised without audience on Saturday, January the 29th. The black and white swans are normally performed by the same dancer, but in the live broadcast, the dual role was divided between these two dancers: Hanako Matsune from Japan and Violetta Keller from Germany. As a result of the exceptional arrangement, there were also two princes: Michal Krčmář from the Czech Republic danced with Matsune and Jun Xia from China with Keller.

I watched the performance on TV, of course it didn’t compare to a live show, that I have seen years ago at our old opera house. I think the staging and costumes were wonderful and the pair of Violetta Keller & Jun Xia were dazzling. All the photos of the post are from the press.

Choreography: David McAllister
Music: Pyotr Tchaikovsky
Conductor: Bejamin Pope, Matthew Rowe
Production, costumes: Gabriela Týlešová
Valaistus: Kalle Ropponen

I wanted to have white flowers in this post, bought even white tulips,
but they looked so ridiculously small. That is why I chosed these double eustomas
from February last year as their flowers look like ballet skirts to me.

I have always loved the dance of the little swans!
