Friday Bliss #140 - Spring Delight

For Pentecost / Pfingsten I made a heart shaped bouquet using a heart wreath

as the base. I had to photograph the bouquet inside because it has been a really wet week.

In the garden tulips and plums are blooming - alone in the rain.

The yellow small tulips are Tulipa sylvestris. They were beautiful in bud, too.

Last autumn I planted many new tulip bulps. The first to bloom is pale yellow Akebono.

It is robust and simply wonderful with a bit of red on the petals. Warmly recommend.

"Huge camellia-like blooms are primrose-yellow with crisp red petal edges, occasional 

pale raspberry striations, feathered green sepals and a steel-blue, interior starburst. 

Meaning Dawn or daybreak in Japanese, it has a faint, sweet fragrance."

Learning about Past Mistakes?

I got this challenge from Kirsti and the theme is Learning about past mistakes.

The challenge was initiated by my namesake Riitta from the blog Garden Living.

My week point are Japanese maples. In the first photo you see the lime & gorgeous

Acer shirasawanum ’Aureum’. It lasted for two winters. When I dug it up the net surrounding 

the roots was still there - it had not rotten at all. Maybe it was one reason and the other winter frosts.

I have also lost 3-4 purple leaved Japanese maples. The first years I grew them in pot,

but the stairs of my cellar are too difficult. When planted into the ground, they froze the first winter.

Japaninvaahterat vaativat Suomessa ehdottomasti suojaisen mikroilmaston 

tai sitten talvetuksen kellarissa. Meillä tuulee liikaa, vähän päässä naapurissa punalehtinen japaninvaahtera viihtyy kadehdittavan hyvin!

In my post Ei mee ku Strömsössä  (Finnish text!) from 2015 I wrote about 

my disappeared clematis. Nothing like no-show phenomenon, they have really disappeared! 

Among them are Multi Blue, Ville de Lyon, Diana, General Sikorski & Etoile Violette 

- and there are probably more! I don’t dare to think about the money gone waste.

The main reason for poor success is that our soil is moraine / till and under it solid rock.

It is unsuitable for clematis. Even if it rains heavily the water disappears in an instant.

In addition I have not fertilized enough. Clematis need much water and fertilizers!

Sorry, I don’t have anybody to pass the challenge. Hope it is ok.

Roihuvuori Cherry Park

Japan born Helsinki entrepreneur Norio Tomida made a proposal in 2005

for the creation of the Roihuvuori Cherry Park. The Japanese community in Helsinki 

donated the trees to the city of Helsinki as a sign of gratitude to the city.

The first 52 cherry trees were planted on World Environment Day in 2007. 

By 2009 there were 152 cherry trees. The pink blossomed ornamental cherry trees 

Prunus sargentii have since thrived very well in the park.

I & hubby visited on Monday morning because were afraid that the forecast thunder storm

would spoil all the fragile flowers. Not too much visitors, so it was lovely to stroll in the park.

We even saw a Cherry Princess with her maiden!

Color Collage with Lichen, Cherry and Off-White

Color Collage 20/2021 

This time the Novita Classic color hades are: Lichen, Cherry and Off-White. 

In the middle there is a blooming rhubarb.
