Because Japanese maples don’t like to grow in my garden (tried several times),
I have to content with Physocarpus opulifolius ’Diabolo’ - Purppuraheisiangervo.
Of course it is not as delicate and charming as Japanese maples, but it is modest,
thrives without no care and blooms this abundantly!
The advantage is also that it selfseeds and the little seedlings are easy to see.
This is also a rapid grower and I have donated many seedlings to friends and family.
I have also yellow-leafed Physocarpus opulifolius 'Dart`s Gold’ - Keltaheisiangervo,
and I like its lime foliage colour. This one grows in a very hot & dry spot,
...I've alway enjoyed Diabolo, but during some summers it get powdery mildew.
