Happy Independence Day Finland!
The traditional Finland’s Independence Day reception at the Presidential Palace has been canceled for the second year in a row - due to the deteriorating situation with Covid in recent days. President Sauli Niinistö and Mrs. Jenni Haukio were to invite people who have worked for the good of health and Finnish society during the coronavirus pandemic. The total number of invited guests was only 200 as in normal times it is over 1800.
Me and hubby celebrate the Independence Day with a good dinner, just two of us. Reading and listening to music, watching festive programme on television. A quiet day this year, too.
President Sauli Niinistö and Mrs. Jenni Haukio in 2017.
The traditional students' torchlight procession runs today too from
the chapel of Hietaniemi Cemetery (soldier's graves), ending at Senate Square.
This is an event to be held in several university cities on Finland 's Independence Day,
the first torchlight procession was held in Helsinki in 1951.

Guten Morgen Riita,
Thank you Eva for Sibelius’ quote. Great composer & highly appreciated. Good week for you too. Here it is a real winter week with temperatures from -10C to -15C.
PoistaHimmel Riita,
Right yes, for you also an important day ;-) I find it a sensible decision and even if without great festivities, it is and will always remain a special and important day for the land and people.
VastaaPoistaHappy independence day and greetings over to you

VastaaPoistaThank you Tom. This is an important and festive day.
VastaaPoistaHappy Finnish Independence Day! Your photos are beautiful images of winter. It's too bad that Covid is rearing its ugly head once again. We are going to have to learn to live with it, for I fear it's not going away any time soon. I wish the world was more unified on this.
VastaaPoistaEnjoy your quiet festivities!
Espero que pasaras un día feliz. Felicidades por otro año más de Independencia. Besos.
