Confusing Present Winter Weather

It is so ugly and grey outside, that I removed all color from my photos!

Due to climate change there is a clear change in the winters of Southern Finland. We used to have real snowy & cold winters on the coastal aereas too, but that is not the case any more. This makes us confused, because we are used to real winters even in the south. I searched for some facts & memories of rare snow!

The December 2019 was a fiasco for southern Finnish winter lovers. The average monthly temperature was even more than five degrees above normal. The beginning of the thermal winter in Southern Finland has been postponed more and more over the turn of the year in the 2000s. Foreca said that in Finland the average temperature rise is higher than the global average.  The map shows the snow coverage on 8 January.

January 2019 was similar: first warm and wet, but then we got snow & freezing cold -20C 

at the end of the month and February donated us a LOT of snow. So, must wait with patience!

The current mild and watery weather conditions will become the new normal during this century: the snow cover will become a disappearing feature. By the end of the century, both the thermal winter and the permanent snow cover may disappear completely from Helsinki and Turku, for example. This development is supported by the increasingly mild and warm Baltic Sea, which makes rainfall near the coasts more sensitive to water and keeps temperatures higher inland.

But I have bought some tulips for tomorrow to brighten up my mood!
