I’ll share some Finland sightseeing today. We visited the Häme Castle, a medieval castle in Hämeenlinna last autumn. The Castle was most likely built during the late 13th century to serve as military base in the border zone between Sweden and Novgorod. At the end of the Middle ages the castle was governed by some of the most influential Swedish houses, the Tott, the Sture and the Posse. The castle has seen use as a women’s prison 1883-1972 and is currently a museum and one of the main tourist attractions of southern Finland, being the centerpiece of the city of Hämeenlinna and a popular venue for events, including renaissance fairs.
The future meets the Middle Ages. Belgian contemporary artist Nick Ervinck is known for his colourful 3D sculptures. Ervinck’s cyrborg-like sculptures combine historical imagery with modern technology. The works engage in dialogue with the historical environs and objects of the castle: for example, the contrast between the sculptures and the castle’s suits of armour challenges visitors to ponder the evolution of technology.
Good morning Riita,
VastaaPoistathat's a very interesting castle. I read your report with interest.
The artist with his works, I would have liked to see that too.
Have a nice weekend and I send you a very warm greeting.
Eva
Häme Castle is impressive. I have never before seen 3 D art. Have a fine weekend Eva.
PoistaWell preserved buildings with a mixture of stone and brickwall. Interesting sculptures and artifacts on display at the museum.
VastaaPoistaThe castle was really interesting to see, and it was huge.
PoistaLiebe Riitta,
Wolfgang
Vielen Dank fur dein Kommentar Wolfgang. Habt ein schönes Wochenende.
PoistaHäme Castle is wonderful and it has many features to admire. These pictures are beautiful and I like 3D sculptures too.
VastaaPoistaIn the castle there were narrow stone staircases after one another. I did not have the stamina to see it all 😊
PoistaThank you for taking us along with so beautiful pics and impressions. It's like a little trip back in time where you can let your imagination run wild.
VastaaPoistaGreetings and hugs to you
Nova
This castle has gone through many renovations. It was very beautiful & impressive.
PoistaWhat an interesting place! Beautiful photos!
VastaaPoistaThank you Shiju.
PoistaDear Riitta,
VastaaPoistathanks for this interesting Castle and your Information about them. The walls are impressed - there are so many storys if the walls can speak,
Greetings
Kirsi
It is amazing to think that parts of the castle are 1000 years old.
PoistaVery interesting post and stunning building. I do like it.
VastaaPoistaWishing you a happy weekend too!
You should visit in case you have not yet seen it. Warm greetings.
PoistaUma maravilha este belo castelo.

Muito abrigado. Bom fim de semana.
Poista...beautiful inside and out!
VastaaPoistaThanks Tom.
Poistayou take us to such interesting unique places. I'm so glad you're okay still. The aggression in Ukraine is terrifying.
VastaaPoistaThank you. This is all terrifying, the western democracy and peace are in danger. Our president Niinistö meets your president Biden today in Washington. I do wish the negotiations bring Finland some safety. We have good cooperation with Nato, but we are not a member country.
PoistaBeautiful details of the castle, Riitta. Like what the sculpturist used for the first of his works you are showing, but not as much what if may represent -a snake? Have a pleasant weekend, Emille
VastaaPoistaHello Emille,
PoistaI believe Ervinck’s works are some kind of robots.
I've often thought of you and your country in the past few days. I also read up on the history of 1939 again. I think it is right and important that Finland and Sweden are now taking part in the NATO consultations.
VastaaPoistaHerzliche Grüße!
Astrid
Dear Astrid,
PoistaThank you for your interest in our history with Russia. Finland has been trying to balance in front of Russia. Now Putin cannot be trusted at all. Russia’s relations with us & other EU & western countries are freezed for decennias. I can breathe more freely as Finland and Sweden deepen their cooperation with The US and Nato.
That's gorgeous. I hope I get back there and I'll visit in person.
VastaaPoistaThanks Lydia. We have a few castles worth of visiting. Also the fortress Suomenlinna in Helsinki and Olavinlinna, the place of Savonlinna Opera festivals.
PoistaWhat an interesting castle!
VastaaPoistaThanks Margi.
PoistaHello Riitta,
VastaaPoistaHame Castle looks strong and well built. I have been thinking often of you and other people I know in Finland. Such a terrifying situation.
Thanks for your comment Lorrie. I admire the Finnish & Swedish politicians. They are able to totally change their mindset and take steps quickly. Today Swedish prime minister Andersson and secretary of defence Hultqvist meet in Helsinki president Niinistö, prime minister Sanna Marin and the Finnish secretary of defence Antti Kaikkonen. Defence cooperation with The US, Finland and Sweden is being deepened. That is great news.
PoistaDramatic pictures of an interesting place!
VastaaPoistaThere is something mystical about a castle. Thanks so much for all the fantastic photos.
