The week has been chilly with wind, rain and wet snow. For Friday the weather forecast
promises strong storm. I have spent my time mainly inside reading and Sissi sleeping.
This is one of her hiding places where she can sleap peacefully.
During Easter I read this fantastic biography of Elin Danielson-Gambogi (1861-1919)
written by Salla Leponiemi. I’ll leave here the link, in case you want to read,
there is Google translator. Elin lived in a time when it was extremely difficult for a female
artist to get the deserved acknowledgement.

While married to Italian painter Raffaello Gambogi her husband had a short love affair
with Elin’s good Finnish friend. The red, post-marital crisis self-portrait from 1903

a tightly cropped bust, a focused gaze and clenched lips. The connection to history is reinforced
by the red velvet of the dress, a privilege allowed to an authoritative man in Italy
during the Renaissance. At the same time, the image introduces a modern, unbreakable woman
looking at the viewer from above. She can't be broken down.
Elin's eyes look tired, the nights without sleep have drawn traces around them,
but the gaze speaks of mental strength and vitality.

VastaaPoistadas Wetter war bei uns ganz ähnlich, der Winter lies sich nochmals sehen, wir hatten viel Schnee, Frost und auch Wind. Aber heute soll es ruhiges Wetter mit Sonne geben.
Ich glaube gerne, dass die Katze sich dort sehr wohl fühlt, das sieht schon sehr gemütlich aus.
Das Buch scheint wirklich sehr interessant zu sein, die Bilder beeindrucken mich sehr.
