Herttoniemi Manor has colorful past & has had many lords. One of them was Augustin Ehrensvärd (1710-1772), the designer of the Viapori fortress. He established a brick factory on the manor's property to produce building materials for Viapori's fortifications. Later there was a porcelaine factory in the main building, but it was renovated in 1815 to home use according to the plans of architect Pehr Granstedt.
The park got its present look in 1810s, too. The park is divided into two parts: one part is a Baroque-style garden with flower plantations, the other part is an English style landscape park with ponds, gazebos and wildlife. In the manor’s Baroque-style garden there are a lot big lilac shrubs, of course not in bloom during my visit. Red peonies were on fire in the sun.
These circles of Matteuccia struthiopteris could be used in home gardens, too.
They looked so beautiful.

So it doesn’t matter at all if the museum is closed....with this beautiful park it is still a place to go. Thanks for sharing, also the information. Love to read from the history of the country you live.

What a stunning garden to visit. The peonies are gorgoeus and a definite favourite of mine, and I also love the ferns - another favourite. A beautiful bog post.
VastaaPoistaTosi kaunista! Ihania tuollaiset suuret kukkapenkit.
VastaaPoistaT. Täysin arkista
...I imagine that the inside is equally beautiful, but I would be content to stroll through the gardens! Thanks Riitta for sharing these beautiful images today, take care.
VastaaPoistaDear Riitta,
VastaaPoistasuch a wonderful garden makes one forget that maybe one actually wanted to visit the museum.
I love peonies, but also the circles of fern are wonderful to look at.
Best regards

VastaaPoistaSe ve muy lindo. Un beso.
VastaaPoistaI do love the elegance and romance of peonies. Their season is so short that we must enjoy them while they bloom. Beautiful gardens.
