Today some elves and other decorations for you. Back in the good old days
the Finns believed in guardian spirits known as elves and each elf had his/her special area
to protect. There were house elves, sauna elves, mill elves, barn elves, cowshed elves and stall elves.
In return, these elves required little food, a right of residence or the last steam from the sauna.
The above tiny elves live on my spice shelf in the kitchen.
There exists even a book by Mauri Kunnas about our bygone elfin past.
I made this high chestnut cone about 20 years ago and it looks still brand new.
The beige Santa Claus looking guy is my House Elf.
My House Elf wanted to send one of his guardian elves to you, too
in order to guarantee you a peaceful & safe Christmas.
So grab yours! This edit is made from the above photo.
Me and my elves wish you happy Advent!

Thank you, Riitta!
VastaaPoista(Many thanks to your elves too...)
They send you hello ♥
PoistaIn the North (Kakslauttenan) they had these house elves with black heads (and no faces). I wish I'd got one when we were there because when we went back south, there weren't any....I really liked those house elves...
VastaaPoistaOh, you have been at Kakslauttanen Lydia! Those elves looked certainly frightening as they had no face. It is lovely to think that some elf is protecting you, kidding of course :) I have one garden elf in our sauna, too. Greetings!
PoistaThey're adorable! I'd love to have some to brighten up the mantel.
VastaaPoistaThanks for sharing at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2020/12/kitty-at-zoo.html
Wishing Wonderful Advent Sue!
PoistaGood morning riita,
VastaaPoistaI just laughed at your elves, special cow barn.
They are great too, although I imagine something else among elves.
But that's how it is.
Have a nice day, Greetings Eva
Sometims it is fun to read about folk traditions and beliefs. Have a great week Eva ♥
PoistaSo I do....no, I did ;-) I just love such figures of elves and I find all the storys about or with them so cute. Just the idea to have a house elf, a real one♥

This kind of beliefs were for sure common in many countries in earlier times. In our folk belief traditions we have elves and many kinds of other spirits / gnomes with good or bad will. Hugs ♥
PoistaSo cute !
VastaaPoistaI had to smile while looking at the funny fellows.
A nice tradition, this story about the elves.
I also wish you a nice Advent season
Ys, the keep me safe :D Warm greetings Jutta <3
PoistaLove your elves Riitta and your beautiful chestnut cone. I’m thinking a house elf would be just the thing at the moment. B x
VastaaPoistaHallo liebe Riitta!
VastaaPoistaIch liebe die Bücher von Mauri Kunnas aber mehr noch alle Wichtel und Elfen!
Schöne Bilder und eine tolle Bearbeitung für Juttas Projekt!
Liebe Grüße
Anne
On sinulla komea tonttuarmeija tuomassa joulun mieltä! Kauniita asetelmia.
VastaaPoistaThese are beautiful figurines and every country has his or her superstition about them. A haltija (Haltia) (so I read) is a spirit, gnome or eleven -like creature in Finnish mythology that guards, helps, or protects something or someone. And I also took one and wanted to thank you and wish you safe and healthy days.
VastaaPoistaI love your post - the photos are beautiful and the Elf folklore is so interesting - they are very cute.
VastaaPoistaOnpa kivoja tonttuhahmoja sinun upeissa asetelmissa.
VastaaPoistaIhania tonttuja!
VastaaPoistaUpeita tonttusia!
VastaaPoistaHis two little guardian elves look so impishly wonderful :) I have a gnome this Christmas that sits by the fireplace. I think it a wonderful tradition. Have a beautiful Advent Season.
VastaaPoistaElfen und Gnomen verzaubern uns gerade in dieser schwierigen Zeit.

Aika ilkikurisen näköisiä tonttuja, kiva kun tonttuja löytyy niin kovasti monenlaisia.
VastaaPoistaOh thank you Riitta! What a joyful gift for the season. Who could not use a house Elf! Happy Christmas to you!
VastaaPoistaGracias por los Elfos. Besos.
VastaaPoistaOh, die sind ja niedlich und schauen ganz schelmisch aus. Ich wünsche Dir auch eine schöne Adventwoche weiterhin, herzlichst Klärchen
VastaaPoistaKiva kun osallistuit :)
