As it is Pentecost today and apple blossoms look so wonderful,
I like to share with you this poem by our beloved poet Eino Leino (1878-1926).
In Finnish we say: Heleätä helluntaita! My own translation.
APPLE BLOSSOMS My happiness blooms like an apple tree in the light spring nights, when spruce tops are bowing down and maidens are deep in their dreams.
Those few nights around Pentecost, those nights are grand and profound, if only no wind came to blow, the craved good fruit would ripen.
Oh Heaven, let it be placid now, even if later You give us other! Oh mighty Lord, protect now the apple tree of an orphan! - Eino Leino -
We have had the season’s first real summer week - sun & warm. At the moment scenery is filled with blooming trees and shrubs. Mostly white it is! But these little darlings bloom in heavenly blue.
I have practically nothing new, because I don't amuse myself by shopping. That is why I took my mirrored dragonfly, bought at Easter and photographed it with my tiny & lobelia plants which were bought a few weeks ago.
I have three big pots on the low terrace steps. This color combination
- pink petunias & purple lobelias - are not me.
Usually I have more bluish annuals. Let’s see how they turn out later on!
Last May we knew nothing about coronavirus and safe distances - it took me half an hour
to queue to Magritte exhibition at Amos Rex. This museum is situated on Mannerheimintie, very centric. At the background you can see the tower of the Finnish National Museum.
René Magritte is known for giant green apples and a long pipe shaped nose - see my post here.
